"We had our living room and hall floors refinished and new hardwood installed by Footprints Floors. Our original floors were in horrible condition-stains everywhere. These guys were able to make them look brand new. We feel like we’re living in a new house! The communication on the part of Clint(owner) and Brian(project coordinator) was excellent. They were prompt in returning texts and calls and upfront about all costs. They even hooked us up with a hardwood flooring supplier who was also very good to work with. Their hardworking team descended on our house Wednesday morning-on time, and by Saturday afternoon the work was finished. I really can’t say enough about this company and highly recommend them. So hard to find contractors that take pride in their work and in the way they treat their customers. Don’t hesitate to give them a call."

"Very happy. Floor looks beautiful, and price was very fair. John Rankin was easy to coordinate with beforehand. He hung plastic to protect our cabinets and basically walled off the area. We paid extra for him to come back after the floor was sealed and put ram board down to protect the newly finished floor from other contractors doing other jobs in the house. Very happy, give him a call if you need wood floor work!"

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

Flooring maintenance in Columbus should address local challenges like winter salt, spring mud, and high pollen counts. For hardwood, use a humidifier in winter and a dehumidifier in summer to prevent shrinking or cupping. Promptly clean up tracked-in salt and mud to protect finishes. Carpets benefit from professional cleaning every 12-18 months to remove pollen and moisture-related residues. Tile and vinyl need regular grout sealing to resist Ohio’s clay soil and moisture.

Helpful?

In Columbus, the age and style of your home can influence flooring choices—many older homes have uneven subfloors or require special prep for historic preservation. Suburban homes often have concrete slabs that need moisture testing before new flooring installation. Full basements are common, so moisture control is a must. Always check HOA guidelines and consider that hardwood flooring is highly sought after in many Columbus neighborhoods.

Helpful?

When comparing Columbus flooring contractor quotes, be cautious of unusually low bids, vague material descriptions, or missing details about subfloor prep and moisture testing. Reliable professionals should address local humidity and soil conditions in their process. Avoid contractors unwilling to provide Columbus references, those who rush the timeline, rely solely on verbal agreements, or demand full payment upfront before any flooring installation begins.

Helpful?

For Columbus flooring installation, engineered hardwood and luxury vinyl plank are ideal for handling the city’s humidity swings and temperature shifts better than solid wood. Basements benefit from ceramic tile, waterproof vinyl, or polished concrete to combat moisture issues common in the area. In high-traffic zones, quality laminate or bamboo offers durability. Always use a moisture barrier for basements and premium underlayment for sound control in multi-level Columbus homes.

Helpful?

Columbus’s humid continental climate means flooring installation needs extra attention to seasonal humidity swings and rapid temperature changes. Wood flooring can expand during muggy summers and contract in cold, dry winters, leading to gaps or warping. Spring rains and occasional basement flooding make moisture-resistant flooring materials and vapor barriers essential, especially for lower levels. Scheduling flooring installation in late spring or early fall helps minimize climate-related issues.
