"I hadn't used Mr. Electric in a while and some of the reviews weren't very good. I called several other companies first who said they'd come out next week but it's hard to shower in a dark bathroom for a week. I called Mr. Electric and boy was I glad I did. I called at 2 p.m. I was given an appointment between 5-7 p.m. I got a call at 4;30 that the technician was on his way. Ivan was very professional, helpful and on time. He diagnosed and fixed the problem. I will definitely call this compnay again. The cost was a little high."

"So far so good, my mother needed a contractor in this area, they needed some electrical outlet moved, changed and added around the kitchen and dining room.  My mother was satisfied with the work.  I didn't hear any complain from my mother."

"We had a panel swap out. Bryan was quick to respond to my inquiry. He had to involve AEP and the city inspector on the day of the install. They did a great job and were very quick! I highly recommend anyone in need of electrical work to contact Steller Electric."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Your Columbus home may benefit from electrical upgrades if you notice frequent breaker trips, flickering lights, or still have two-prong outlets. Homes built before 1960 often require rewiring or panel upgrades to meet modern safety standards. If you rely on extension cords or lack GFCI outlets in key areas, consider improvements—especially if you plan to add appliances, install EV chargers, or update lighting.

Helpful?

Combining electrical work with other home upgrades in Columbus can streamline your renovation and minimize disruptions. For example, if you’re remodeling a kitchen or finishing a basement, coordinate panel upgrades or rewiring at the same time. This approach often reduces the need for multiple inspections and can help future-proof your home for additions like EV charging stations or smart home systems, making the process more efficient overall.

Helpful?

In Columbus, electrical project timelines vary by complexity. Simple circuit installations or adding outlets often finish in less than a day. Panel upgrades typically require 1–2 days, while whole-house rewiring can take 3–7 days, especially in older homes. Permit approval and weather conditions, particularly for outdoor work, may extend the timeline, so plan for possible delays during busy seasons or inclement weather.

Helpful?

When planning electrical projects in Columbus, consider local code updates, permit requirements, and the timing of inspections, especially if your project involves rewiring or circuit installation. Harsh winters can delay outdoor electrical work, so schedule accordingly. If your home is in a historic district or near flood zones, anticipate extra steps for compliance. Neighborhood association rules and utility company policies may also impact your project’s timeline and scope.

Helpful?

In Columbus, homeowners often overlook permit requirements, underestimate the scope of rewiring, or hire unlicensed contractors. Failing to coordinate electrical work with other renovations can cause delays and extra costs. Ignoring seasonal weather when scheduling outdoor projects or missing unique historic district rules can also create setbacks. Always shut off power before starting work and ensure proper grounding and GFCI protection for safety.
