"The valley on my roof was funneling all the water towards a gutter that was too short.  Lance roofing came in, replaced and added the shingles that needed to be replaced and installed a diverter.  Now all the water runs to the gutter like it is supposed to.

"Perfection metal roofing replaced my old and damaged roof with a brand new metal roof that looks fantastic and functions great. Their customer service was excellent and the price they gave me was less than half of what comparable contractors were quoting me!"

"While removing the old roof, the aluminum coverings on our mansard roof dormers were damaged. The roofing crew attempted to repair the damage but the result was not satisfactory. As compensation they deducted a small amount from the total bill."

"Mr. Shelter was did an excellent job putting a "rubber" roof on our sun porch. He answered my questions, took pictures before & after, cleaned up the scraps and was a pleasant person to deal with. I would recommend him to anyone needing roofing services."

"I was completely surprised with Mastercraft Restoration LLC as they are the opposite to every roofing company that looked at my roof. My roof was â long in the toothâ as they say and every company that came out was priced far above what I could afford. On top of that I received conflicting reports of the actual condition of the roof. That is until Tom of Mastercraft Restoration arrived. Tom listened carefully to what I could afford and performed a thorough inspection and worked out a solution that would protect my home and fit my budget. It is most noteworthy to share that Tom has mannerisms and a presence that can only come from above, no hard sell tactics or pressure, just the truth. There were no short cuts taken and the roof is beautiful! The cleanup was complete and thorough even after working for 13 hours on a 95° F day. As for me Mastercraft Restorations is the only company that I will use (for all the services they provide) from this day forward. Give Mastercraft Restorations a call and have Tom review your situation before moving forward with another company and I know your experience will be as great as mine."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

There should be small gaps between your roof and the walls of your home, and other buildings. These small gaps let building materials shift, expand, and contract with weather and other outside forces, and they prevent moisture from wicking down walls from roofing and gutter systems. Without these strategic gaps, your home’s exterior and its finishes can sustain water damage, decay, peel, delaminate, and crack. However, there is a fine line between a smart gap and a problematic gap—all  gaps should be small, intentional, and covered or filled in with foam insulation to prevent pests from using them as access points.

The placement of snow guards depends on the individual roof, but typically snow guards are placed between 12 and 18 inches from the eaves, though they can be placed as close as six inches and as far as 24 inches from the eaves. A roofing professional can assess the roof and potential snow loads to determine the best placement.

Roofers can install roof vents. Updating, upgrading, or simply replacing your roof's existing vents is common when installing a new roof. If you're looking to upgrade your ventilation system with a powered version, a local HVAC professional can also help with the task. If adding roof vents to your home is necessary while installing an addition or during other renovation work, your contractor will handle or hire out the venting work.

You can damage your shingles if you use the wrong type of paint on them. You should always use acrylic latex paint specifically formulated for shingles. Other types of paint may trap moisture, which can cause bigger problems like rot and mildew. Considering that roof replacement costs $9,100 on average, it’s definitely best to avoid making this mistake.

Besides using the right paint, remember that painting your shingles will require increased maintenance.

There are several signs that indicate you’ll need new underlayment. Clear signs include missing or damaged roofing and exposing the underlayment to the elements. Additionally, if you notice water damage in your home by the roof after a storm, it could indicate that your underlayment may need to be replaced. If your gutters aren’t draining properly, it could also lead to rotting or water damage to the underlayment.
