No subs. Cost is determined by the job. No travel fee. Additional phone - (877) 340-9179. Additional emails [email protected], [email protected]. Additional service offered - Custom millwork, interior finish(carpentry & natural stone), historic building hardscapes, historical painting, restoration of historic skylights. Additional DBA - The Durable Group.

"I had Durable Slate come for my annual inspection of the roof tiles. They found one issue and would have fixed it for nothing if I had a replacement tile but I did not. They came back as promised and fixed it for a fair price and also left me some extra tiles for next time. Yes, you can find less expensive roofers, but they are dependable, qualified and fair."

"The phone receptionist was professional and outlined their process. She said the rates were based on $75/hour per person. I thought that to be a fair, and it would be if they actually kept close to that rate. She said they would show up ready to do the work and quote the job at that time. I was out of town the day they came, Garrad (the owner) showed up and immediately started saying to my wife how difficult it is to hang a chandelier on an 18 foot ceiling. (It is, but I would have done it if my ladder was long enough) This is his tactic to then quote the job versus a $75 per hour rate. He called me to quote $600 (or 8 hours of work) to hang one chandelier. My mistake was saying yes, assuming the $600 would come down if it went smoothly. It did for him, not my wife. She had to listen to a lot of babbling from him including "what is this wire for?". Umm, that's how the light gets power, she said. Is this a professional contactor??? It took him 5 hours to finish which included a lunch break and incessant talking. I had already assembled the light and sized the chain for the correct height. I also identified the correct breaker and wrote it on a note for him and my wife told me he still threw the wrong breaker! He had to set the ladder, remove the old, and install the new. When I heard my wife paid $600, I called Zimax to see why that was not corrected to a rate closer to the $75/hour, and said I was totally fine paying for 5 hours. (I could do this work in 2 hours with the right ladder) Plus, I had a larger project to hang barn doors after hanging the light. In conversation with Garrad, the excuses came fast and furious. He told me I should have said no to the $600, and he is right. The best excuse was "the time and care he takes to do it right". BUT IT WAS NOT RIGHT. He had not followed the instructions that were with the chandelier that specifically stated the power wire (now he knows what it is for) is to be strung every 3rd link of the chain. He threaded every link and when I got home to see the work, the WIRE was bearing the weight of the fixture, not the chain and support members. I got as high as I could on my ladder and relieved some tension, but not completely. Bottom line, he will find a way to double or triple the stated hourly rate and, in my case, did horrible quality work. I gave him ample opportunity to do the right thing and he chose not to even after pointing out poor quality work. You'd better be desperate to hire this company."

Plaster Repair questions, answered by experts

The short answer is yes, a sagging plaster ceiling is dangerous. Sagging plaster on a wall is something you should fix immediately, but it isn’t a major concern. If the same type of sagging occurs on a ceiling, however, you could be in danger of your ceiling falling in large chunks. When plaster sags, it loses its strength and ability to hold itself up. The bonds that hold it together are strong, though, so if a sagging area falls, it will take large pieces down with it.

Damp plaster does dry out, although the drying time depends on several factors, including the type of plaster, the surrounding temperature, moisture content, and the extent of the dampness. Sometimes, it can take weeks or months for wall plaster to dry naturally.

This depends on how much plaster is applied and in how many layers, but a decent estimate is around 150 square feet. If you are applying only two coats on a small wall, there is a chance you may only need one or two gallons for the entire project. If you are plastering a large living room wall with high ceilings, using one of the more involved techniques–like Scagliola–that requires several coats, expect the project materials costs to add up quickly.

Small hairline cracks in plaster walls are not serious and are mostly cosmetic, but larger or widespread cracks indicate structural problems that need repair.

  • Cracks 0.5 cm (0.2 inches) or thinner: Cosmetic cracks you can repair if desired.

  • Cracks wider than 0.5 centimeters or widespread cracks: Structural repair is needed, either DIY or by a pro.

  • Cracks 2.5 centimeters (1 inch) or wider: Contact a plaster repair professional.

Watch for large, deep cracks, multiple cracks in the same area, and cracks along the walls where they meet the ceiling. Repair these cracks to prevent further damage.

Ceiling-mounted curtains won’t damage the ceiling if they’re installed properly. Using the right anchors or securing the brackets into joists will ensure the curtain weight is properly supported and prevent damage. However, overtightening screws, using weak anchors, or repeatedly removing and reinstalling hardware in the same spot can cause cracking or sagging over time. In that case, you might have to call a pro for ceiling repair.
