John W. Magie Enterprises Inc. started in business in 1982 as a Lawn Care Company. In 1985 we purchased another Lawn Care Company out of Harrison, Ohio that had been in business for 32 years. This was a necessary purchase to grow our business and expand our demographics as the area continued to grow and review our options for future possibilities. It was decided to become a Lawn & Garden Dealership in 1988. We partnered with John Deere, Toro, and other engine manufactures. By 1990, (80%) of our business was retail, parts, and service of lawn and garden equipment. We had continued growth over the next 10 years. In 2000 we had a major road split our property in half. The new highway (Butler Regional Highway or Rt. 129) allowed us additional traffic and retail opportunities. In the Spring of 2003 we started building a new state of the art facility for our industry which was approximately 100 yards from our original farm type setting. On October 10, 2003 we opened our new facility. Our new facility was built around increasing our efficiency to service our customers better. We continue to expand our service opportunity by providing at Home Service for our customers and selling Preferred Customer Maintenance Plans. We have partnered with other retail outlets to be a Service Partner to continue our growth and expertise by being a parts and service solution for our customers.

"Natorps, Berns, and Bloomin Garden Center would all be superior landscape options. Today I visited to speak with the owner, Tony, about an $861.33 tree installation Sharon Nursery did for me on June 29, 2018. Following a June 13, 2019 visit during which I spoke to one of his staff because he was not present, I sent Tony a June 16, 2019 email (along with photos) at the suggestion Laura, one of the Nursery employees. Not receiving a reply, I sent a second email on June 22, 2019. The reason for my June 13 visit along with the subsequent emails was that the tree was planted directly on an irrigation line that was broken in the planting process. I would have expected the Sharon Nursery crew to inform me of this at the time; in addition perhaps an extended warranty on the tree might be in order. In fact, Laura suggested this would be the least they could do. After all, the cost to repair to the irrigation system was circa $200. Upon with speaking with Tony, following is what I heard: -He had read my email, but chosen not to acknowledge or reply -Sharon Nursery has many employees, he can't be responsible for them (if not the owner, then who?) -They couldn't have broken the pipe with a shovel (had he read my email and checked the order, he would have seen they used a bobcat) -My value as a customer is immaterial to Sharon Nursery -Too bad he is not as "perfect as me" My primary complaint was the owner would not take the time to reply to me. That sets the tone for the entire operation."

Wholesale nursery, landscaping & coporate offices location. Additional phs: (513) 398-4769. DBA Natorp's, Natorp's Nursery Outlet, Natorp's Landscape, and Natorp's Landscape Supply.

"Giving this company a 2 is generous. Please don't hire them. They have so many added fees in their final bill. My bill had an extra $3,500, which was more than a 10% increase for "general conditions". No explanation was given for this. The labor was $100 per man hour. The poor guys doing the work don't even see half of this money. I could go on and on. What I received for the $30,000 I paid was a piddly walkway. I still can't believe how badly I was taken. I worked with Tom Fryman. His communication was subpar. Theybstarted the job off incorrectly, so they had to do repair work, and they billed me for their mistake. This company is dishonest and greedy. Do yourself a favor and find someone else for the job."

Hyde Park Landscaping was founded in 1972 mainly as a grass cutting service located in the heart of the Cincinnati area. In 1985, Michael Shumrick acquired ownership of Hyde Park Landscaping with a fresh look and a new philosophy about what a landscape company should be. He realized that landscaping is not just a service, but one of the safest and most rewarding investments a homeowner can do. Personal interest, quality, affordability, and customer satisfaction has been at the forefront and has lead us to where we are today. We are centrally located allowing us to provide timely service and the highest quality materials. We are a full service landscaping and tree company that concentrates on the needs and desires of all our clients. Whether it’s a small or large project, residential or commercial, our designers can help you Explore the Possibilites of what your property has to offer. We are proud to have Jim Searcy, who served as president of the 2013 ONLA (Ohio Nursery & Landscaping Association) on our staff. 25 employees, no subs used. Cost determined by the job. No travel charges.

"Hyde Park Landscape and Tree Service has taken excellent care of the Mt. Washington Cemetery for over ten years. When we lost twenty-eight 150+ year old ash trees due to the emerald ash borer, they meticulously removed each tree. This was no easy feat in a cemetery with over 4,000 headstones. Not a single headstone was harmed and they left the cemetery immaculate. They did all of this in a timely, efficient, pleasant and professional manner. They have performed other dead tree removals for us in an equally meticulous way.Their prices are reasonable; they offer excellent value for the money. The Mt. Washington Cemetery is a formerly abandoned cemetery that is cared for by neighborhood volunteers who formed the nonprofit Mt. Washington Cemetery Association in 1985 to care for the cemetery. On several occasions, Hyde Park Landscape and Tree Service has come to the cemetery's aid, delivering mulch and cutting up and removing sections of a massive tree limb that was too big for the volunteers to handle, at no cost to the cemetery. I endorse this company unconditionally and am so grateful to have them in Cincinnati. Julie Rimer Secretary of the Mt. Washington Cemetery Association"

"I tried to email company this week to arrange for less treatment areas and "pollinator areas". But the company sent a truck out to hurry in a treatment and are demanding I pay for a totally unauthorized service. Tyler Toole and Mark Toole talked to me like I was a handmaid. I'm a single disabled middle aged woman. In all my years of business and properties I have never seen an established company bully a customer for not spending enough $ and forcing services. It is woefully unethical."

FAQs for lawn fertilization and treatment projects in Cincinnati, OH

The cost to reseed or overseed a lawn is about $1,050 on average, ranging from $450 to $1,700, depending on lawn size, seed type, and location. Popular seed types for residential lawns include bahia, fescue, and Bermuda. Keep in mind that it costs $0.10 to $0.20 per square foot to seed or overseed a lawn. Additional cost factors may include:

  • Fertilization: $80–$400

  • Soil testing: $700–$2,100

  • Yard cleanup and leaf removal: $200–$560

  • Treating weeds: $110–$325

  • Mowing: $50–$210

On average, the cost of lawn fertilization is $250, ranging from $80 to $400, depending on the size of the lawn, its current condition, additional treatments, number of applications, fertilizer type, and location. Keep in mind that labor, tools, and equipment make up 80% to 90% of the total cost of lawn fertilization. Additional lawn treatment options include:

  • Lime treatment: $100–$150 per 1,000 square feet

  • Crabgrass treatment: $30–$80

The frequency with which you should fertilize your lawn depends on its overall health. Healthy lawns with healthy soil may only need to be fertilized annually. On the other hand, you may need to fertilize lawns with shallow roots, poor soil, or neglected or over-fertilized every six weeks. To determine the best fertilizing schedule for your lawn, consider hiring a professional lawn fertilizing service and consult them about recommended frequency based on your lawn’s health.

Lawn aeration costs between $75 and $350 on average, depending on the size of the lawn, aeration type, slope of the lawn, soil type, lawn prep, and location. Keep in mind that it costs an average of $0.10 to $0.35 per square foot to aerate a lawn that’s less than 1,000 square feet. Different types of lawn aeration include:

  • Spike aeration: $85

  • Core aeration: $200

  • Liquid aeration: $75

Whether organic or synthetic fertilizers are better for your lawn depends on your goals, budget, and plans for other lawn treatments. Organic fertilizer costs more but is likely to benefit your lawn more in the long run by improving the soil as well as feeding your grass. Synthetic fertilizers get faster results but don’t enrich the soil and may contaminate nearby bodies of water if you live on a shoreline. A hybrid fertilizer may be an option to give you the benefits found in both organic and synthetic fertilizers.
