"The phone receptionist was professional and outlined their process. She said the rates were based on $75/hour per person. I thought that to be a fair, and it would be if they actually kept close to that rate. She said they would show up ready to do the work and quote the job at that time. I was out of town the day they came, Garrad (the owner) showed up and immediately started saying to my wife how difficult it is to hang a chandelier on an 18 foot ceiling. (It is, but I would have done it if my ladder was long enough) This is his tactic to then quote the job versus a $75 per hour rate. He called me to quote $600 (or 8 hours of work) to hang one chandelier. My mistake was saying yes, assuming the $600 would come down if it went smoothly. It did for him, not my wife. She had to listen to a lot of babbling from him including "what is this wire for?". Umm, that's how the light gets power, she said. Is this a professional contactor??? It took him 5 hours to finish which included a lunch break and incessant talking. I had already assembled the light and sized the chain for the correct height. I also identified the correct breaker and wrote it on a note for him and my wife told me he still threw the wrong breaker! He had to set the ladder, remove the old, and install the new. When I heard my wife paid $600, I called Zimax to see why that was not corrected to a rate closer to the $75/hour, and said I was totally fine paying for 5 hours. (I could do this work in 2 hours with the right ladder) Plus, I had a larger project to hang barn doors after hanging the light. In conversation with Garrad, the excuses came fast and furious. He told me I should have said no to the $600, and he is right. The best excuse was "the time and care he takes to do it right". BUT IT WAS NOT RIGHT. He had not followed the instructions that were with the chandelier that specifically stated the power wire (now he knows what it is for) is to be strung every 3rd link of the chain. He threaded every link and when I got home to see the work, the WIRE was bearing the weight of the fixture, not the chain and support members. I got as high as I could on my ladder and relieved some tension, but not completely. Bottom line, he will find a way to double or triple the stated hourly rate and, in my case, did horrible quality work. I gave him ample opportunity to do the right thing and he chose not to even after pointing out poor quality work. You'd better be desperate to hire this company."

"I emailed Brandon with a question, he got back to me the same day. The next day he showed up, to take a look at my grandmothers china cabinet that I had accidentally cracked the door on. My husband is on O2 and his lung function is down to 17% and I requested they wear a mask to come into my home- they respected my wishes and had masks on. Took the door off, took it with him and had the glass replaced and back in the door in about 45 minutes and I went to the shop and picked it up. Very professional and prompt! Very impressed with his work, very reasonably priced. I will definitely use him again! I highly recommend Brandon!"

"ON 3/20/2018 I HAD CAR TOWED TO XENIA GLASS & LOCK TO CUT AND PROGRAM NEW KEY FOR MY MERCURY COUGAR. THEY CALLED ME TO PICK UP CAR ON 3/21/2018. AFTER THEY PROGRAMMED KEY, THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THE CAR RAN FINE BEFORE KEY REPLACEMENT. BRIAN SAID THAT “SOMETHING ELSE WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR BECAUSE HE IS A PROFESSIONAL - HE HAD BEEN DOING THIS FOR 18 YEARS.” ON 3/22/2018 I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO SELECT AUTO REPAIR AND HAD A DIAGNOSTIC RUN. RODNEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS THE ‘PATS’ (PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM) CODES AND SAID IT WAS A KEY RELATED ISSUE AND THAT IT COULD POSSIBLY BE BECAUSE THEY USED AN AFTERMARKET UNAPPROVED UNOFFICIAL KEY. AFTER CONTACTING XENIA GLASS AND INFORMING BRIAN OF THE DIAGNOSTIC, BRIAN WENT TO SELECT AUTO AND GOT INTO A DISPUTE WITH RODNEY FROM SELECT AUTO REGARDING THE DIAGNOSIS. RODNEY THEN CALLED ME AND TOLD ME TO “GET MY CAR OFF OF HIS LOT IMMEDIATELY OR HE WOULD HAVE IT IMPOUNDED BECAUSE BRIAN CAME THERE AND STARTED AN ARGUMENT WITH HIM AND HE DID NOT WANT TO GET INVOLVED.” ON 3/23/2018 I HAD CAR TOWED BACK TO XENIA GLASS AND ASKED BRIAN TO CUT AND PROGRAM NEW KEY. ON 3/27/2018 BRIAN CUT AND PROGRAMMED SECOND KEY AND THE CAR STILL WOULD NOT START. ON 3/28/2018 I HAD CAR TOWED TO GERMAIN FORD EXPLAINED ISSUES AND THEY STATED THAT THE CAR MUST HAVE OFFICIAL FORD APPROVED AND PROGRAMMED KEYS TO WORK. I HAD THEM ORDER NEW APPROVED KEYS TO CUT AND PROGRAM. GERMAIN FORD ATTEMPTED TO PROGRAM WITH THE APPROVED KEYS AND SOFTWARE, HOWEVER THE CAR STILL WOULD NOT START. THEY RAN SEVERAL DIAGNOSTICS AND DETERMINED THE SAME AS SELECT AUTO REPAIR – IT WAS THE PATS MODULE AND A KEY PROGRAMMING ISSUE. SHAWN CALDWELL FROM GERMAIN FORD INFORMED ME THAT IT IS HIS AND THE TECHNICIAN’S OPINION THAT THE DAMAGE OCCURRED BECAUSE XENIA GLASS PROGRAMED AN UNAPPROVED AND UNOFFICIAL AFTERMARKET KEY WITHOUT OFFICIAL FORD PROGRAMMING SOFTWARE WHICH CORRUPTED THE PATS MODULE. I ASKED THEM TO REPLACE THE PATS MODULE. THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PART AS FORD CONSIDERS THIS PART OBSOLETE DUE TO IT BEING A 2002 MODEL. THE CAR CANNOT BE REPAIRED AND IS CONSIDERED TOTALED AS THE COST TO REPAIR VEHICLE IS MORE THAN VALUE OF CAR. I SPOKE WITH JOHN MARSDEN WITH XENIA GLASS AND WHILE ON THE PHONE HE PUT ME ON BRIEF HOLD AND SPOKE WITH BRIAN. JOHN CAME BACK TO THE PHONE AND SAID TO GET THE DOCUMENTATION FROM GERMAIN FORD AND XENIA GLASS WOULD FILE INSURANCE CLAIM. AFTER I RECEIVED THE DOCUMENTATION I CONTACTED XENIA GLASS AND FORWARDED THE INVOICE FROM GERMAIN FORD TO GET CLAIM GOING. ERIC HOLSTON CALLED ME BACK AND GOT VERY RUDE ACCUSING ME OF JUST TRING TO GET A NEW CAR AND SAID THEY WERE NOT GOING TO PAY FOR DAMAGES. I TOLD ERIC I WAS NOT GOING TO ARGUE WITH HIM THAT WE WOULD LET THE INSURANCE HANDLE IT. ERIC REFUSED TO FILE CLAIM AND REFUSED TO GIVE ME THEIR INSURANCE OR BOND INFORMATION. AS OF THIS POINT THE INCIDENTAL CHARGES RESULTING ARE $697.85 AND STILL NO VEHICLE: $ 56.58 – XENIA GLASS & LOCK - CUT AND PROGRAM NEW KEY $130.00 – SELECT AUTO – TOW AND DIAGNOSTIC ($45.00 TOW + $85.00 DIAGNOSTIC) $155.00 – JOHNSON’S TOWING (3 TOWS) $356.27 – GERMAIN FORD (INVOICE ATTACHED) THE KBB AVERAGE PRIVATE PARTY VALUE IN GOOD CONDITION WITH CORRECT MILEAGE OF MY VEHICLE IS $2,248.00. ESTIMATED TOTAL DAMAGES AT THIS POINT ARE $2945.85. PLUS, TRANPORTATION EXPENSES FOR WORK DUE TO LOSS OF VEHICLE. AS I TOLD THEM, THE CAR RAN BEFORE KEY WAS REPLACED. THE DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE IS A DIRECT RESULT OF PROGRAMMING AN UNAPPROVED AND UNOFFICIAL AFTERMARKET KEY WITH UNAPPROVED UNOFFICIAL PROGRAMING SOFTWARE. THE DAMAGED PART IS A CORRUPT ‘PATS’ (PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM) MODULE. I WOULD LIKE TO FILE AN INSURANCE CLAIM WITH THEIR BUSINESS INSURANCE."

FAQs for glass block service projects in Cincinnati, OH
Installing glass block windows has benefits and disadvantages, as with most materials. The pros and cons can vary depending on the type of glass block and the window location.
Pros
Maintains privacy while letting light into the bathroom
Energy efficient
Sealed to prevent drafts
Aesthetically pleasing
Strong and secure
Cons
Costly to install
Challenging installation
Challenging repair
Glass block installation can be relatively expensive due to the range of material costs and the labor time to assemble this type of specialty window. The process proceeds slowly as the glass does not absorb moisture from mortar and silicone caulk takes longer to harden, leaving spacers to hold up the structure until the caulk or mortar begins to cure. Plus, if your current windows have structural issues or damage, you’ll need to repair them before beginning the project, increasing your bottom line.
The average cost to install glass block windows is about $710, ranging from $460 to $1,000, depending on the size and design of the window, installation type, and location. Different styles of glass blocks also impact the cost:
Clear glass blocks: $10–$30 per block
Colored glass blocks: $25–$40 per block
Acrylic glass blocks: $15–$25 per block
Wavy glass blocks: $10–$30 per block
Alpha glass blocks: $15–$25 per block
Ice glass blocks: $20–$35 per block
Diamond glass blocks: $20–$75 per block
Frosted glass blocks: $30–$35 per block
Typically, glass block windows last about 15 to 30 years, slightly less than regular windows, which last 20 to 50 years. Resealing glass blocks can help extend the lifespan of this bathroom feature. The key to ensuring that glass block windows last as long as possible is to have a professional glass block installer place them. Glass block pros will have the skills, tools, and knowledge required to install these special features into any space, noting obstacles like damaged windows or too-cramped areas during the consultation.
Luckily, glass block windows need minimal maintenance. Other than regular cleaning, the only maintenance involved in having a glass block window is inspecting for cracks every year and applying sealer to the mortar joints if the blocks are set in masonry mortar. Glass block windows hold up well against wind and moisture better than traditional windows and are not prone to rot.
