"I purchased a 160 year old home 2.5 years ago. It has 3 fireplaces. Mid Valley just repaired the one in my living room and they did a fantastic job. The hearth needed to be replaced and they were able to save the old brick to use on the top so that it still looks original to the fireplace. They also lined the chimney with a new stainless steel flue and repaired the fire box. I put a fire in it on Saturday night and it was wonderful. I will definitely be hiring these guys to repair my other fireplace, as well as for general masonry work. I highly recommend their services."

"They did a very nice job.  Three solid days of work and no one slacked off.  High quality results in the end and neighbors have all commented how nice it looks.  Only area for improvement would be a little more time on cleanup and reseed the yard where damaged.

Customers say: True professional

"The yard was literally transformed and we've had so many compliments from the neighbors. Five guys worked for 13 hours on day one, and for another 6 hours on day two. They are very hard workers, but always with a smile. They used high quality (triple shredded) mulch and were very meticulous with their work. The gardens look amazing!"

"I hired Doug's Homes Services to replace a rim joist under our patio door that had water and termite damage. Once they removed the door, they realized that other wood needed replaced as well. They worked on it until everything was replaced and reinstalled the patio door. They kept me updated during the job. Doug charged a reasonable rate, and I was very impressed with their work. I highly recommend Doug's Home Services, and I plan to hire him again in the near future for other handyman jobs."

"Had Betts Structural Engineering come and look at the foundation of a house we were in contract on. Josh came out and was professional and informative. He informed us the foundation was failing and explained what needed to be done. He throughly explained everything and told us how we could do it ourselves for much cheaper than a contractor could do it. In the end he saved us from a long and expensive process if we proceeded with the house."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

In Cincinnati, you’ll find residential masonry contractors for patios, walkways, and brick repair, as well as commercial specialists for larger structures. Restoration experts focus on historic buildings, while tuckpointing contractors handle mortar joint repairs. Stone masons work with natural stone features, and chimney specialists address fireplace and flue issues. Consider your project’s scope and material to choose the right contractor type.

Helpful?

In Cincinnati, masonry work requires careful safety planning. Always wear hard hats, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots, especially when working with brick or stone. Secure scaffolding on uneven ground and use fall protection for elevated jobs. During winter, protect mortar from freezing with insulated blankets. For older homes, follow lead-safe practices and use dust masks when cutting masonry to prevent inhaling silica particles.

Helpful?

Most masonry work in Cincinnati is scheduled from April through October, when temperatures stay above 40°F and mortar cures reliably. Longer daylight hours allow for more efficient brick repair and stone masonry projects. Contractors often prioritize major work in summer, while winter is reserved for urgent repairs, since cold and freeze-thaw cycles can compromise fresh mortar and slow progress.

Helpful?

Masonry in Cincinnati benefits from annual inspections each spring to check for freeze-thaw damage, cracks, and efflorescence. Repointing mortar joints every 15–25 years helps maintain structural integrity, while sealing exposed surfaces every few years prevents moisture intrusion. Clearing gutters and downspouts in fall, and removing ice buildup in winter, protects masonry from water damage and extends its lifespan.

Helpful?

When hiring for masonry work in Cincinnati, look for contractors with experience in local brick types and knowledge of the area’s soil conditions. Ask for references from recent projects and review their portfolio for similar work, such as tuckpointing or stone masonry. Ensure they offer clear communication, use materials suited to Cincinnati’s climate, and provide written warranties for added peace of mind.
