"We replaced the windows in our 1933 home through the services of MadCity Windows. From the initial contact with their sales representative to final installation, the company provided top notch professional work. With the draft from the old windows and the cold of the glass, we are already saving on our energy bills. Our house had old, large windows, so they had to be custom made. As an industrial designer and interior designer, we find our windows to be of excellent quality."

"Hired Hanson's to install new windows on my enclosed front porches. Work won't be complete until after the windows are made in about 6 to 12 weeks. Sales rep. Was very kind and very knowledgeable."

"The installers were great. The salesperson made promises that he did not keep and he missed a window. When the person came to measure he also didn’t catch that I was having all my windows done except one. The windows look great. The response when I notified the co that one window was missed was very fast but added to my cost."

"The sales representative came to give me a quote. I explained to him that I wanted to eliminate the water issues because I wanted to refinish my basement. There were a few things that the sales rep said could be done without an extra cost that posed a bit of an issue when the crew came but then project manager okayed them. I felt the price was high at the beginning but it is competitive for the job being done...I just had not done enough research prior. One suggestion would be for the sale rep to carry samples of the vapor shield wall material (Brightwall, etc) so that I could see the differences because I was under the assumption that it replicates the appearance of drywall, which it does not because it's going to be wavy as it follows the curves of the uneven walls and it is a very thin plastic material.

I also wish sales rep would have quoted me in detail everything I wanted done because now the company is working on another quote to do more work that I told the rep I wanted done in the first place, like basement flooring. I felt a little ripped off at first because I thought my basement walls would have a more "finished" look from the initial quote but then again, I did not know what the material looked like in person...but they agreed to do many extras like removing a wall, adding a wall to hide the boiler and sump pump, adding trim to windows, fixing my basement stairs, fixing a leaky sewage pipe (yuck!) and evening out the floors so I did feel like I got a good deal in the end.

Basement systems did a great job. I just think a bit more education to the customer and writing down all the details in the contract would have cleared up a lot of the miscommunication. Other than that the crew was great, went above and beyond with the extras and my basement is now dry and no longer stinky. "

Windows questions, answered by experts

Yes. Vinyl windows have a PVC frame that wraps around a glass panel that is usually made up of two thinner glass panels separated by an insulating, noise-absorbing airspace. Some vinyl windows are triple-glazed, with three insulating air panels within them. This glass helps keep your interior quiet from outside noise while its insulating qualities help your space stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Yes, but professionals use specialized equipment and cleaning solutions to safely achieve streak-free, long-lasting results.

Well water can leave ugly marks on your window. A vinegar-water spray will remove most well water stains from your windows. However, you can also use a baking soda paste if the stain is too stubborn. Consider applying waterproofing protection to the glass surface after cleaning for long-term protection. A protective film or spray layer also makes it easier to remove the water stains next time.

Storm windows are placed outside of already-installed windows. Regular windows are installed into a frame, offering a barrier to the elements but no special protection. Storm windows add extra protection to regular windows, reduce noise, and improve insulation. Replacing a regular window involves a different process than installing a storm window.

New window installation costs range from $300 to $1,500 per window, depending on size, material, and energy efficiency features.
