"Excellent experience overall. I bid 4 companies to blow in closed cell spray foam insulation 2and quot; and then batt the reminder of the walls and ceiling. Gale was not the lowest bid but the other company wrote the bid as and quot;1 to 2and quot; of blown in insulationand quot;. I was concerned that they would now blow in the required amount of foam. Gale wrote their bid for and quot;2and quot; of closed cell foamand quot;. Dominic was the person handling the account and did an excellent job of staying in touch as we got the project on the schedule and moved through getting it down. The crew did and excellent job of cleaning up after themselves and was pleasant to interact with. They did have some trouble with their equipment that delayed the job but Dominic stayed in touch and kept us informed how repairs were going, when the crew would be back etc. The foam crew did great work. They filled in all the corners and did a nice tight job. In some places the filled in more than 2and quot; of foam. The batting crew had an easier job. They also fit the insulation in well (even with a fair number of angles/irregular shapes). They even stuffed under the stairs !

Overall very pleased with the quality of the work, clean-up, and professionalism"

"Our house is over 120 years old. We hired Allstate Exteriors to replace our roof and reinforce the structure of the roof where there were some weaknesses. Over most of the house, Allstate replaced the shingles with a metal roof. A portion of the roof is flat and Allstate replaced the deteriorating rubber with an improved covering. The roof on the front porch was sagging, so Allstate deconstructed the roof and then rebuilt the roof with proper LVL beams to prevent sagging in the future. The roof over the main part of the house had sagged a bit over the 120+ years. We hired an engineer who recommended the addition of several collar ties and other supports. Allstate understood the engineers instructions and installed the supports. All of the work described above took less than one week. They hauled away all of the debris, and checked the work to ensure that it was done correctly and to contract. All of the people we interacted with were knowledgeable, professional, and polite."

Gutter Repair and Replacement questions, answered by experts

Yes, and repairing such damage is another repair that’s done often. Sagging gutters are usually the result of one of two things: damage or overload. For example, ice buildup over the winter due to clogged gutters can cause expansion, stretching the gutters. A falling tree limb or even a rogue baseball can cause gutters to sag. Sagging gutters can be repaired, but they are often replaced because it can take less time.

Yes. Excessive pitch in gutters can cause water to flow too rapidly, leading to a decrease in the gutter's water-holding capacity; consequently, during heavy rainstorms, water may awkwardly splash outside the gutters. Ideally, you should aim for a quarter-inch of gutter slope for every 10 feet of gutter run. However, it's important to note that this guideline may vary depending on your home's structure and the type of gutters being installed.

If you are experiencing minor issues with your gutters, such as a small leak or cracks in one or two sections, it makes more sense to repair the issue than to replace your entire gutter system. However, you may need to replace your gutters if they’re frequently detaching from your home or if you notice a buildup of mold or mildew in your basement.

Unless you've chosen to install underground downspouts, your gutter downspouts shouldn't touch the ground. If they come into contact with the soil or pavement next to your home, rainwater can back up into them during a storm, preventing them from doing their job effectively. Instead, aim to have your downspouts end about 12 inches from the ground.

In most cases, it makes more sense to repair leaking or damaged gutters than it will to replace them. You’ll spend an average of $400 to repair your gutters, while full replacement will cost around $2,000 or more, depending on the gutter material and style and the size of your home. If your gutters are nearing the end of their lifespan—usually around 20 years for aluminum or vinyl gutters or up to 50 years for copper or steel—then it might make sense to replace them, as it could cost you less in the long run.
