"John was thorough when checking our gas fireplace. It had been suggested to us that the pilot might have been cracked. John cleaned the fireplace debris and said the pilot seemed fine once the area was cleaned. He was informative, answered any questions I had and took care to be careful when removing the debris."

"Based on prior input from Dan's company, we purchased the stone & materials from Hamilton Parker. Dan and his Co. provided labor.  Dan is almost a fixture in our 1950s ranch; he has provided many updates per previous reports and we would not hesitate to hire him again -- unfortunately we have ran out of kitchens/bathrooms/laundry rooms and porches for him to upgrade.  Please see the before and after pictures of our latest project; the front porch.  We are extremely pleased as always."

"Jody runs a small family operation with integrity, honesty and quality workmanship. My chimney looks fantastic. We had a couple unexpected minor snags as you always do and it's important to know Jody stands behind his work and is easy to work with from start to finish as well as reasonably priced. I highly recommend this company."

"The pathway lights look terrific and function very easily with an automatic timer. Jeff and his team were very efficient installing the lights. They are currently working on installing a new patio and they are working diligently to ensure the prep for the patio is done correctly. We are very pleased with their professionalism and eye for detail. They are a pleasure to work with. I would not hesitate to call Jeff for any of our landscape needs."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

A hot fire alone will not remove significant creosote buildup and can be dangerous, as it risks causing a chimney fire. While the warmth from a fire can help loosen stuck tar, making treatments like creosote logs more effective, it is not a substitute for proper cleaning. For existing creosote, the safest and most effective method is to have your chimney professionally cleaned by a chimney sweep.

When your wood stove catalyst goes bad, it can cause your stove to produce less heat or run slower than normal. You might also notice thick black smoke coming out of your chimney. If you notice any of these signs, contact a professional who installs wood-burning stoves and repairs them for an inspection and fix.

If you would rather use vinegar to clean the stone fireplace instead of dish soap, this mixture should work fine. Vinegar is slightly acidic, however, so it may etch some kinds of stone without quite a bit of diluting. For a stone fireplace, dilute it to about one cup of vinegar for every gallon of hot water. It’s a smart idea to test the diluted mixture in an inconspicuous area of the fireplace and watch for etching. You can use vinegar to clean quite a few different items around your home, and it’s especially good at removing stains.

Regular cleaning prevents the buildup of creosote and soot, ensuring good airflow and reducing the risks of chimney fires that could compromise safety.

You’ll need vented logs if you have a vented gas fireplace and vent-free logs if you have a ventless gas fireplace. If you aren’t sure which type of fireplace you have, contact a local gas fireplace service. They’ll help identify your fireplace and explain which type of logs you need to run it.
