"I cannot say enough great things about my experience! From start to finish, Ashton was absolutely wonderful to work with. He was professional, knowledgeable, patient, and extremely skilled at what he does. He took the time to answer questions, provided excellent customer service, and made the entire process smooth and stress-free. The quality of work on my Cedar Springs bar exceeded my expectations — I am truly in love with how my project turned out! His attention to detail and craftsmanship really show. I would without hesitation hire him again and highly recommend him to anyone looking for quality work and outstanding service."

"They arrived on time every day. Workers were friendly and informative as to what they were working on that day. They also replaced the wood decking on our front, back and side decks. Power washed, sanded, and applied water seal to the railing. Very pleased with all the work that was done."

"Roger is communicative, efficient, knowledgeable, and thorough. He completed a large-scale renovation in my living room and dining rooms, tearing down old plaster walls and ceiling, installing new drywall, canned lighting, new flooring, and trim. He kept me informed throughout the project. I highly recommend Nickel City Repair and look forward to having Roger back for the next project."

"SZ was great! Haider and his crew were professional, reliable, and highly skilled. We had porch stairs that were rotting to the point of being dangerous. They provided a quote with two days of my initial request and started the project within days. After just two days of work we have brand new, sturdy porch steps. I highly recommend them!"

"We just had Scarpone and Sons replace our roof in the middle of winter!! They chose the perfect day to rip off the existing roof and replace it in a little over a day. Lucky for us it stopped snowing just long enough for them to do what they do. They were efficient, fast, and did an excellent job. The roof no longer leaks and we are so happy! I highly recommend them to do YOUR roof. In fact we recommended them to a couple that were thinking of replacing their roof."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

The primary parts of a house that need framing during construction are floors, exterior walls, interior walls, and the roof. The framing in these areas provides the skeleton for adding other materials over the top. With walls, for example, contractors can hang drywall over the interior walls and siding over the outside of the exterior walls. Proper framing ensures a sturdy house that is built to last.

Framing most homes takes anywhere between five and eight weeks to complete. You’ll need to account for inclement weather conditions, material shipment times, the number of crew members, and the weight of your materials. If the weather is too hot, wet, or cold for the installation, this process could take closer to eight weeks.

To calculate the number of linear feet of baseboard you’ll need, measure the length of each wall of the room you’re installing them in as close to the floor as possible, rounding up to the next full linear foot. If it’s your first DIY molding job, having a few extra feet on hand for miscuts is a good idea.

Framing with metal studs can be significantly faster than using wooden studs, provided you have some experience working with the material. While you can use virtually instant pneumatic nailers with wood, metal requires installing screws. However, because metal is lighter, straighter, usually comes cut-to-length, and doesn't require sorting for the best pieces, you can save significant time using metal instead of wood.

While framing a basement is not as difficult as finishing a basement, it's something you should typically leave to the pros. That’s because if something is installed correctly, it will affect your entire basement. However, you can take care of some of the smaller tasks, like filling holes or putting up some insulation.
