"I have been dealing with RJ Lawn and Landscape for almost 2 years now. I Signed a contract with RJ in January of 2022, for a patio surrounding an inground pool, small deck from the door to the patio, landscaping, fence and fire pit. This project was supposed to be completed in October/November of 2022. RJ did not complete this project in 2022, and now in November of 2023 it is still not completed because RJ has walked away from the job without any notice. He has simply stopped returning calls/texts/emails. He left me with over $9,500 in work paid for and not completed, that I am now working to try to recover through legal action. His work is unprofessional. He completely botched the concrete pour he did in June 2023 and had to paver stone over the brand-new concrete because of how badly he messed it up. I tried to be patient with him as the project timeline got pushed back repeatedly. I tried to be patient when his shoddy and rushed work had to continually be redone. However, it is completely unacceptable to cut off all communication when work has been paid for and not completed. RJ is unethical, unprofessional, and untrustworthy. BEWARE!!!"

Snow Removal questions, answered by experts

Whether salt melts ice overnight will depend on how low the temperature drops. If temperatures stay around 30 degrees Fahrenheit, you can count on salt melting ice overnight. Otherwise, the lower temperatures get, the less effective the salt is in melting ice, and the more likely you’ll wake up with a slippery driveway the next day.

While most people associate defrosting icy roads with salt, you can also use sugar for a similar result. Sugar lowers the freezing point of water, melting ice in a pinch.

However, sugar doesn’t melt ice as well as salt because it doesn’t separate the water molecules as efficiently. So, if you need to quickly melt a stubborn patch of ice on your driveway or walkway, it’s best to use salt over sugar for faster results.

How much snow can a roof hold? The answer could help you to avoid roof collapse—a worst-case scenario, of course. For most roofs, you can expect it to withstand four feet of fresh snow, two feet of packed snow, or two to three feet of a mix of old and new snow. However, your roof will only be able to handle one inch of ice. The actual weight capacity of your roof may vary, so check with whoever built it for exact details.

It’s the reverse of home de-winterization. To winterize, you purge your plumbing system (including your water heater and all piping) of water. Some experts also recommend filling fixtures with an antifreeze solution. Other tasks involve winterizing sprinklers, sealing foundation vents, check weatherproofing around doors and windows, and more.

It is not advisable to use salt on your roof to prevent or remove ice dams. It’s not only mostly ineffective but can also cause serious damage to your roof itself. Salt can rust metal, damage masonry, pit shingles, and cause runoff that’s damaging to plants and animals.
