"Tom was professional, on-time, respectful of my home and pets. He had a challenging job, we asked him to come in to fix a disastrous tile job done by another "contractor" and he did phenomenal work. We plan on doing a big addition next year, any and all tile work will be done by Custom Tile Solutions, LLC."

"We are very pleased with the quality of work performed by Custom Tile Solutions. Tom arrived on time to provide us with an estimate and listened attentively to our ideas, asked all the right questions and offered suggestions for the work we were looking to have done. The demolition phase went smoothly and Tom worked carefully to minimize noise and dust. The project included bathroom floor tile, custom shower basin with seat and shower wall tiles. All work was done to exacting standards and the result was outstanding. Tom completed the job within the time frame he quoted and departed the work site taking all leftover materials with him. We cannot say enough about the entire experience with Tom and we highly recommend his company."

"Robert is an exceptional craftsman. His skill shows with a perfect layout. We used big 24 by 36 inch tiles and his recommendation for the layout turned out perfect. About his service he was the first contractor to actually call out the five I contacted prior. He came out gave me a reasonable quote and took on the project the following Monday. The results are fabulous. We have already discussed him doing our bathroom next!"

"Excellent service from the owner to the installers. They have their own installers and are reliable and professional. We are going to install LVP next year and plan on using them again. SO much better than Tile and Carpet in pricing and service. We did a significant amount of research and pricing. Zero complaints-really-quite good."

"I was very leery about using a contractor since I have had a few bad experiences, but I decided to give him a try. I liked talking to him over the phone and he seemed like a very friendly and good guy to work with. He was outstanding!!! I showed him my original project which was to replace some bad tiles and while I was showing him the job I mentioned a few other jobs I needed to do and his prices seemed reasonable. He finished the tile project and did an awesome job. Then I had him reseal and redo my other shower. While it was drying he asked me if I had anything else I wanted him to do since I had mentioned a few other things. I asked him about the additional cost and he said he would just do it for me which was incredible. Because of him I now have my bathroom tiles done, my shower is taken care of, kitchen faucet is now replaced and my pipes under the sink are all set. I have had an issue with the plumbing for a long time and now because of Joe it is working great. I can't say enough good things about Joe other than I really think of him as a friend that I would trust to do any job for me. I can't recommend him enough. Thanks again for the awesome job and at a very reasonable rate! I look forward to working with him again soon."

Small jobs welcome

"Tom arrived a little early for both appointments. 1st one was to check out the job, needed materials, etc. 2nd one was to do the repair. Unfortunately, the sheetrock under the tiles had gotten wet & deteriorated so that he couldn't complete the job without having to completely rebuild the structure. Gave me an excellent quote for tearout and replacement (tiles extra). Would have gone with him but my landlord brought in her tile man and gave him the job. Tom was personable, professional and quoted very reasonable prices. Have him do your work. You won't be disappointed."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

No, tiling over painted walls or wallpapered surfaces is generally not recommended. Textured surfaces and paints will affect the adhesive, possibly causing tiles to lift or fall off. Painted walls with a semi-gloss or high-gloss finish are particularly difficult for adding tiles. It’s wise to strip the paint first if you install the tiles to drywall, although it’s still best to opt for a cement backer board.

Tile installation can be expensive because it requires more time and labor to install than many other materials. For example, laminate flooring can click and lock into place, and carpet comes in large rolls that you can secure to the floor. On the other hand, tiles need to be cut, laid individually, grouted, and left to cure.

Ceramic tile can be slightly less expensive than porcelain pavers. You can find outdoor ceramic tile for as little as $1 per square foot, but high-end options tend to cost the same as porcelain.

Deciding between using a shower pan or tile will likely come down to the shower’s design. You can learn how to install a shower pan liner, but it has a standard look similar to most other showers, though there is some flexibility for material and color choices. Tile, on the other hand, can be customized and is set directly into the shower base. However, a shower tile floor is more difficult to install than a shower pan.

When choosing between porcelain and ceramic tile, the best option depends on your specific needs, budget, and project application. Porcelain tile is generally more durable, denser, and harder than ceramic, making it a good choice for busy, high-traffic areas. It also offers superior moisture resistance, making it ideal for moisture-retaining spaces. However, porcelain is typically more expensive, and its hardness can make it brittle, potentially causing it to crack if a heavy object is dropped on it. In contrast, ceramic tile is a more budget-friendly option with lower material and installation costs. It is softer and easier to work with, making it a great choice for DIY projects. While not as durable as porcelain, ceramic is still a quality material suitable for many home applications, particularly small, decorative projects.
