Customers say: True professional

"My husband and I chose True Building Performance because of their 5-star rating. We were very impressed with Paul’s timely responses to our calls and questions and the team’s professionalism throughout the process of insulating our attic. Paul and Joe took the time to show and explain to us exactly what the job would entail, and we trust that their work was completed in an excellent manner. It was a pleasure to interact with their team, who were punctual, respectful and considerate of our home. They demonstrated competence and congeniality when interacting with each other which we greatly appreciated. They offered a fair price for the job, and there were no surprises with additional costs. We gladly concur with the 5-star rating!"

"OK. Foam wasn't as uniformly full between studs as with previous 2013 same foam insulation material applied by a Pittsfield, MA similar contractor (no longer in business, apparently). Not a large technical concern.   Pointed out some small partially filled voids at baseboards. Contractor filled them without issue. In fairness quote of June 2016 said 5.5" thickness, not "uniformly full to studs" nor "smooth at studs' faces".   I would have preferred that spray "ripples" were less pronounced.   I don't expect any reduction in insulating effect, sound deadening or air infiltration prevention.  Contractor was flexible with start date when I took a few days longer to get electrical done than originally planned.  Contractor cleaned up after themselves thoroughly.  Arrived at 09:15 and departed at 13:00 for about 450 square foot job.  Minimal equipment trailer and truck "footprint" on driveway."

"Travis and his helper did an excellent job spraying foam insulation under the floor of a 16'x16' enclosed porch. Highly recommended. My personality is to ask a lot of questions to fully understand what the contractor is going to do. Travis was very knowledgeable, personable, and fully explained the type of foam (closed cell), how thick, and the probable dripping in a tight space. The distance from the joists to the ground varied between 15 to 20 inches. A tight space for equipment, spray, and people. They put a tarp down and managed to get in there to spray the foam. Given the tight space, there was some dripping (Travis explained why this would happen when he visited to make the quote). The tarp caught that, and they did a very nice clean-up removing drips from the visible cross beams. After they were done, I had to look underneath to tell that the foam was in place. The dripping issue was fully mitigated. I had obtained other quotes and Saratoga Cellulose & Foam was very reasonable. I believe Travis gets the foam directly from the manufacturer rather than at a local home improvement store."

"John from Global Dwelling did our initial assessment. I appreciated him taking time to explain all the work that needed to be done and why. His team came in a few weeks later and were really amazing. I think insulation work is super messy and will leave a ton of debris everywhere. I was pleasantly surprised to find a ton of cloth coverings coming in to cover everything and found no major dust/debris in the house when they were done. The guys were very nice and thoughtful while in the house. The work completed was completed on time and our house is definitely more comfortable. Our finished basement is no longer a freezer and the house doesn’t “sneeze” when there is a high wind. I have already recommended them to my neighbor for when he’s ready to insulate his attic!"

You can see that we've insulated and air sealed the rim joists in this picture in addition to the B2B paneling.
You can see the main attic ducts have been spray foamed in this photo. This keeps the warm air warm as it travels through your cold attic in the winter time.

"Roberto was the technician and he was very professional, polite, and personable. He inspected the rest of our system and told us things that needed to be changed or repaired. He showed me pictures of everything. Everything he told me about was accurate. He quoted me a price for R38 insulation , Some of our ducts were plastic and he recommended them to be changed. I agreed completely and didn't know they were plastic. I would have had them done the work but I had no price comparisons to make and besides I didn't have the money right then. So he just finished the vent cleaning and left his card. He did a great job on the vent cleaning and was happy with the work."

"I have a 2 story home.  He was concerned about knocking the icicles down because we have very large french doors, right underneath the icicles.  He asked if we had any leaking and I told him no.  He told me use a roof rake and take the snow down and out from behind the eaves.  He gave us a free estimate.  I appreciated his honesty and safety concerns, regarding out home."

"House was built in 1890, 2800 SF, 3 bed room 2 bath and heating and cooling it was a struggle. I had enough, enough of wasting my money on fuel(350 gallons + a month), pellets (2 pellet stoves), and trying to keep the thermostat set on 78-80 degrees in hopes it would be 64 degrees upstairs where my kids, and newborn sleep. I entered all my information into Home Advisor(Angi) and I found Mark Reed and his company on this website. I then read all the reviews this company had, then read the reviews on the other companies the website recommended. I found that Mark and his crew were best suited for the undertaking that was about to take place in my home. Mark and his son Gary met me at my house within a couple days and we spent 3 hours walking my home, studying the problems and climbing in the attic. I received a quote from Mark in person and I asked them to start as soon as possible. The crew was great, kept a clean work space and understanding about all my concerns of them working in the house at the same time my family and I were living there. The project took over 2 weeks to complete, and as the project was nearing the end I could feel the changes almost immediately. I could walk up the stairs and it was the same temp though out the house, even though it was 20 degrees outside. All my thermal barriers were met, and exceeded. Out with all the old insulation(and much more), and in with all new blown-in -R60! The crew exceeded my expectations, and Mark was there on and off checking in. While I was at work, I received pictures and updates throughout the day and the communication was nice. Even with the crews in my house working for the month of February I burned over 90 less gallons of fuel at month. That was with over a week and half of no insulation in the attic at all, holes in my walls, a hole in my gable end for access, crew guys in and out all day, and outside temperatures between 12*-31* degrees. I would contract with The Climate Chief again. I hope this helps the next person looking to save money long term, and I hope everyone has the same blessed experience that my family and I had as well."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Upgrading insulation in Schenectady can make your home more attractive to buyers who value energy efficiency and comfort. Enhanced insulation often leads to lower utility bills, improved indoor air quality, and a quieter living environment. Energy audits and documented improvements can boost buyer confidence, while local incentives and certifications may further increase your home’s appeal and help it stand out in the market.

Helpful?

For insulation projects in Schenectady, it’s smart to keep a digital thermometer, humidity meter, caulk gun with weatherproof sealant, expanding foam, and a sharp utility knife. Safety gear like gloves, dust masks, and protective eyewear are essential. Plastic sheeting helps contain debris, while moisture meters and rodent-resistant materials address local climate and pest concerns. A headlamp is useful for inspecting tight attic or crawl spaces.

Helpful?

In Schenectady, be cautious if a quote is unusually low or high without clear justification, or if a contractor pressures you to decide quickly. Avoid professionals who skip a thorough inspection or neglect to address air leaks and moisture issues common in the area. Lack of local references, inadequate insurance, or unfamiliarity with older home construction are also warning signs to take seriously.

Helpful?

In Schenectady, homeowners are prioritizing eco-friendly insulation materials, such as recycled cellulose and natural fibers, to improve indoor air quality and sustainability. Retrofit insulation that preserves historic details is in demand for older homes. Many are integrating smart thermostats and advanced air sealing techniques for better temperature control, while whole-home ventilation systems are gaining traction to manage humidity and maximize energy efficiency.

Helpful?

Schenectady’s climate, with its cold winters and humid summers, requires insulation that manages both temperature extremes and moisture. Freeze-thaw cycles can cause insulation to shift, so regular checks are important. The area’s humidity, especially near the Mohawk River, makes vapor barriers and moisture-resistant materials essential. Proper attic ventilation and air sealing help prevent ice dams and energy loss during frequent weather changes.
