LDR Group is the wholly owned subsidiary of the corporate parent Miscellaneous Enterprises Etcetera LLC, as originally formed in 1993 as a Delaware corporation, and later formed in New York in 2008 in the depths of the Great Recession. Originally doing business as Local Dad Repairs, it had at it's heart the goal of helping people in our community keep their homes repaired in hard times. In 2016, with the economy booming and the need for our services diminished, the company shifted it's focus to commercial consulting, serving millwork (custom woodwork and cabinet) companies in the NYC and Washington DC markets. When the corona virus pandemic besieged us all, we realized that there was an opportunity to once again serve our community, but in a more future focused manner that made full use of the skills gained in energy efficiency and home improvement we had developed over the years. LDR is now focused on providing a very special, very important need to our community and our world-hyper energy efficient Passive House buildings as new homes and home renovations. We will no longer do smaller remodeling projects like kitchens, baths, additions and basements. We have moved on to doing just whole house Passive House 'Renphits' or new build Passive House homes. Ask us how we can reduce the energy your home uses by up to 90%!

"Jeff and his team are very thorough, communicative, skilled, extremely knowledgeable and committed to excellence. He guided us from design and engineering and applications, researching materials and finding subcontractors ,through construction. He solved problems as they arose. He kept work moving despite covid, snowstorms and holidays! Recommend highly!"

"A+++ . We had a new external garage built on our property. Liberty Overhead Door was hired to install the new garage door, new opener (motor), keypads, etc. Liberty was amazing and had the best price around! (We had 3 other estimates and Liberty was the best price.) They were here on-time, worked very efficiently and had our new door up in a flash. I trust them 100%. They set everything up and showed us how to use the new hardware, remotes, keypads, etc. Bob N. had showed us many samples of garage door styles and finishes. He was able to match our existing doors (on house) perfectly. Customer service is fantastic and always respond to your call. I could not have asked for better service or quality. A+++ ."

Baby Bear Construction specializes in home remodelling, additions, ground up construction, roofing, carpentry and all manners of general construction. We are acclaimed for our work ethic and professionalism. We offer free estimates and many special services to our many new and long term customers.

"My pregnant wife and I were looking to add on to out 100 year old house for the baby. We got a home improvement loan through a bank and hired Baby Bear to do the work. They very quickly started the job, demolishing the kitchen and dining room first. Keep in mind, my wife and I are living in the house during this construction. Constructing the new foundation is where things started to fall apart. They claimed they couldn't dig for the longest time because it was rainy. We weren't in a terrible hurry to finish the job so we were okay with this for a while. They demolished the deck, at some point. Then when they finally did dig, they found a small hole in the foundation. This caused all work to stop until the foundation could be assessed. It turned out the existing foundation needed to be fixed before they could move forward. This was quoted by Baby Bear to cost around $60k. This quote is way our of line for what it should have cost. At this point, my wife and I were ready to fire them. This is after they received around $22k from our bank loan. At some point around when we were firing them, they came back and said they could do the foundation for $10k. I assumed this was some tactic to keep us on the hook, we decided to let them go anyway and go with another contractor. They refused to give us any of the money back for the foundation they never constructed. They left a mess in our yard from the demolition, which some part of that $22k should have covered for them to take care of. At the end of the day, we got swindled by this company, but we still got the house built, but it was infinitely more difficult without the money they walked off with. We had to cut a lot of corners, I had to do a lot of the work myself and I had to go with lower end materials for parts of the job. The bright side is that my baby has a bedroom and I get to shine a light on their shady business practices. Thanks Angie!"

Hurricane Shutters questions, answered by experts

If a window breaks during a hurricane, the first thing to do is get away from it, shut the door to the room, and move to a different part of your home. Ideally, you should wait out the storm in a room that doesn’t have any windows. Afterward, safely throw out the broken glass while wearing gloves and call a window replacement professional to discuss your options.

If you’re installing hurricane ties, consider other storm-proofing projects. You could call a window pro to install storm windows, get in touch with a door installer to add storm doors, or just ask your hurricane tie installer what other projects they’d recommend you get done at the same time.

Yes, by reinforcing hinges and latches to prevent unauthorized entry.

Hurricane shutters cost about $3,700 on average, ranging from $1,500 to 5,900, depending on the style, size, materials, and your location. Materials may include metal, plastic, fabric, or wood.

Additional cost factors to consider include the number of windows, the time of year you install, and necessary permits. Keep in mind that if you purchase and install hurricane shutters during hurricane season, namely June through November in most states, you can expect to pay more due to increased demand.

Wood is the most classic shutter material. Common options include pine, cedar, or brasswood. MDF shutters are also a more affordable option that retains the timeless, classic look. Composite shutters, mainly vinyl and aluminum shutters, have also become more popular over the years. You may also find steel shutters, sometimes referred to as security shutters, used on the exterior. Shutters also come in various colors and finishes, adding another layer of design flexibility.
