"Erik and Scott handled a big job including walls and vaulted ceilings in our townhome that we couldnâ t tackle on our own. Communication was excellent, the team worked efficiently and quality of the painting was terrific. Erik was patient answering questions and giving advice on our project. Very pleased with the look of our new space!!"

"Dan and his team did a great job repairing my collapsing deck. He used a creative approach to solve the foundation problems and he stuck with the job until it was completed. He also installed new deck boards and now the deck looks terrific."

"I contacted Scott about cleaning the gutters, but when he arrived to provide an estimate, I also talked to him about a drainage issue created by another contractor earlier in the year. Scott was able to come up with a solution, and he provided a detailed estimate for all of the work. He and his crew came back to do the work, and they did an amazing job. The drainage issue is resolved, and the gutters are clean and sealed. I'll definitely be contacting Scott about future work. Highly recommend!"

"You name it, he nailed it. Prompt, reliable, easy to work with, clear with his explanations, excellent work on the project, (power clean on a deck that badly needed it.). Very reasonable pricing. Less than I expected and we received superior work and customer service, I very highly recommend Pro-Tech Exteriors."

Small jobs welcome

"Mike scraped, cleaned and painted our deck last July on one of the hottest days of the year. He showed up on time and worked throughout the day. When he ran out of paint (our fault, not his) he gladly went for more. He removed all furniture and then put back in place. The paint job itself was beautiful and I would definitely use again and recommend to anyone in need of his service."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Putting lattice under a deck will create a polished look that allows for air ventilation. You can also store items underneath as the lattice provides privacy and protection from the weather. You can also put lattice under a porch to create a polished look in the front of your house.

You can build an outdoor kitchen on a deck, but you should choose composite decking since it's more heat-resistant. Metal deck materials like steel and aluminum are also good choices because they're less flammable than wood. You should also consider the weight of the kitchen—make sure your deck can support it and any appliances you plan to use. You should consult a structural engineer to confirm exactly how much weight your deck can safely support when building an outdoor kitchen.

Some elevated decks require stairs that lead to the ground level per the local fire codes in some municipalities. In other regions, a staircase is an optional feature that can increase accessibility and convenience for homeowners who want ground-level access to their deck. Additionally, a staircase is necessary if your home doesn't have an existing door leading to the deck.

There are approximately 5.33 board feet in a 2x4. You can use the board foot calculator in this article to easily find the answer. A 2x4 is 2 inches of thickness by 4 inches of width, so you need to find the length, with 8 feet being the most common. You’d use the calculator here to multiply 2 times 4 times 8, and then divide by 12, arriving at a total of 5.33 board feet.

Yes, you can attach a deck to a mobile home, but it’s important that the work be done correctly to avoid the potential for major damage to your home. Many building codes require that any additions to mobile homes—including decks—be either freestanding or have their own support structures. Getting permits may require submitting the home's original floor plan, the proposed floor plan, framing details, and more.
