"I Deeply appreciate Doug responding to my complicated gutter repair problem left the unfinished by former roofer contractor. Doug assessed the problem and made the necessary repairs which took more than one visit. He willingly returned to tweak additional issues at no extra cost. I definitely recommend Doug and the work he does. BJM"

"As with all home improvement projects, you're going to run into unseen problems. Tom had to move a dishwasher, a dryer and washing machine. He noticed that the dryer vent was installed incorrectly and there was an electrical issue with the dishwasher. He fixed all that. He didn't have to be concerned about any of that, but he genuinely was concerned.
These are busy guys and I can see why. They came out immediately to look at the project. They gave me an estimate as to when they could do the job, and they called every week with an update. Very reassuring.
They are kind and very professional. I already have another project for them. Can't wait. It truly has been a wonderful experience. You hear so much negative crap about contractors and scam artists these days, it is SO refreshing to come across a company like this!!!!
Oh, and the floor is beautiful. Thank you, Tom and team.

"Drake and Vincent did a fantastic job sanding the treads, the banister, and the landing of my staircase! The staircase has an elegant design so it was crucial that the sanding be done by highly skilled and detailed oriented carpenters: Drake and Vincemnt both proved to be just that! The staircase looks amazing! Throughout the whole process they were reliable and knowledgeable, and they kept me posted on how the project was going from start to finish. I would definitely hire them again!"

"Dream Works Design not only had an extremely fair quote for doing our deck but the work was Outstanding! The quality of workmanship and attention to detail are the best I seen in any contractor. Add to that they are always communicating their work schedule and are extremely friendly and always willing to hear your input on the project. If your looking for an AAA plus contractor you must get a quote from Karen/Chili at Dream Works Design"

"Mulcahy Ceiling & Drywall Specialists were outstanding. Highly recommend these guys for drywall ceiling repair. Would not go with anyone else. This job was done by the owner Matthew Mulcahy. We have a 3,000 sq. foot home with an open floor plan including a continuous ceiling that spans the entire first floor kitchen, gate room and hallway. The ceiling was not installed properly by the builder and developed several cracks that ran the length of the entire ceiling. Matthew went over the entire process with me before deciding on the best course of action. The rooms were sealed off with plastic. The hardwood floors were covered with drop cloth. At the end of each day the work area was power vacuumed and left spotless. We selected a new design for the ceiling texture that came out perfect. The job took exactly as long as anticipated. The fee was very reasonable and exactly what was agreed upon. We learned that for ceiling repair of this magnitude you MUST go with a contractor that specializes. This is not a vertical drywall job. The materials used are designed for ceilings. The techniques used to apply them matter - Matthew was very professional. Knows his stuff inside and out. I give this company my highest rating."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

New builds, remodels, and additions often necessitate professional framing expertise.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.

There are a variety of second-story deck privacy ideas depending on your budget and aesthetic. For starters, you might consider fencing or tall privacy railing that masks a good portion of the open deck. A pergola or an awning can provide additional cover and shade. Outdoor curtains are an easy way to add or remove privacy at your convenience, plus they’re a wallet-friendly way to decorate your deck.

Homeowners can increase the usefulness of their garage space in other ways, and one option is to extend the length of the garage by making it deeper. The process is similar to traditional garage extensions, but the end product is a garage with a different layout rather than additional parking spaces.
