"I contacted Chimney Needs on a Saturday with concerns about my stovepipe. Victor, the proprietor, came within an hour of my call, assessed what the needed repair was, and gave me a fair estimate. He said he would be able to complete the job on Monday. He arrived at the scheduled time, finished the job and left the work area neat and clean."

"The crew arrived on time and did a thorough job. The reason this rating isn't higher is because the crew chief had been in my house no more than 10 minutes before diagnosing what he said was a dangerous level of creosote in our chimney and recommending installation of a $1,000+ chimney liner, which his company would of course be happy to sell us. I said no, thanks. The next year I hired another service - Emener ([*** Link removed ***] - which told me that the chimney was actually in good shape and pretty clean considering how much we use the fireplace. 5 Star clearly used its promotional offer as a way to upsell an expensive add-on that I am now convinced wasn't needed. Beware of deals that look too good to be true."

"Safety First was terrific. I went on another site to search for chimney sweeps in my area and came up with several names. When I posted something about needing a chimney sweep, Vincent from Safety First was the first person and first company to respond (within about 3 minutes). Vincent offered to come up to my town, which is probably about 45 minutes from where he is based, but the weather and driving conditions were bad, so we scheduled an appointment for the next morning. Vincent worked hard-- it takes someone who is strong to force the piping up into the flue to clear the blockage. Vincent also vacumed the flue and checked it later to make sure it was venting properly. He was very polite and conscientious- he called to tell me when he was on his way, showed me his business card when he arrived, cleaned up after himself, and was honest. I had been told by someone else that I needed to replace my furnace, which kept shutting itself off. It turns out the furnace has a safety mechanism that shuts down the gas/heating function if the furnace detects that it is getting too hot or there is a problem with insufficient ventilation. Because Safety First cleared the blocked flue, my furnace is now able to heat my house and there is no need for it to shut itself off. I would have had Safety First install the replacement furnace, and told Vincent that already, so by telling me my equipment did not need to be replaced he actually is cutting himself off from a job I otherwise would have been glad to give him. If I need any chimney/fireplace work done in the future I will contact Safety First and not need to look elsewhere."

"The installation was delayed the first day because of heavy rain however  the crew used that opportunity to stage all the equipment and materials at the job site.  The very next morning the installation began exactly on time and the crews worked until dusk that night, again the next day and were finished by noontime on day three.  I was given a detailed tour of what exactly was done and specific instructions of the do's and don'ts of caring for our new roofs.
The job site was left clean with almost no evidence that any work had been done. The job came in exactly at the price we had agreed on and my warranty was delivered to me as promised.
All in all I would say we I had a textbook experience.

Chimney Caps questions, answered by experts

Typically 1-2 hours, factoring in ductwork and electrical connections.

By positioning ductwork for optimal airflow and reducing potential leaks.

You should contact a local range hood installation professional to install your range hood and do the ductwork. Prices range from $50 to $100 per hour, with the total number of hours required varying based on the project complexity. Simple installations might take an hour or two, while more complicated ones can take four hours or more.

If a range hood has minor issues, the average repair costs $85 to $210. This accounts for both parts and labor. More extensive damage can cost as much as $300 to $500, at which point it may be worth considering completely replacing the range hood.

No, range hoods do not necessarily have to be vented outside. Ductless or non-vented range hoods are available, which are common in condos or small kitchens where connecting to external ductwork isn't feasible. These hoods operate by taking in air, filtering it through charcoal filters to help eliminate smoke and odors, and then recirculating the cleaned air back into the kitchen. However, while these recirculating hoods are more versatile, venting to the outside is still the preferred and more effective method for completely removing smoke, odors, and gases from the room.
