"They paved my huge driveway in only two days and the outcome is excellent. Franklin arrived with a whole team of men and they worked very hard and did a quality job. I can totally recommend Villa and Sons and I will hire them again for another job in the spring."

Customers say: Quick response

"We could not be happier with our choice of Fredy's Contracting Inc. to complete our patio. Within an hour of our call on a Saturday morning, Fredy's son was at our house measuring our patio. Within 48 hours we had a written bid emailed to us. Work started within the 3 week time-frame we had agreed upon. Jose and his crew excavated (most by hand because of the awkward space) and leveled everything in a day. The next day, they worked through a rainstorm and laid the pavers for our gorgeous patio. We are do-it yourself kind of folks, there is no way we could have done this on our own. Top notch work, professional people, and all done in a timely manner. We will be calling them back for our next job! Highly recommended!! Wendy & Jim Moore"

Emergency services offered

"Last spring I decided to build a new stone patio and kitchen and selected Elite Development to do our project. They were not the cheapest but it was clear to us that these guys know what they are doing. From layout, to construction, to final turf and plantings they knocked it out of the park. Could not be happier and would not hesitate to hire them again. Alan F"

Small jobs welcome

"ProPavers did an excellent job. We hired them for 3 projects. They put pavers down in the front and back and built a huge retaining wall on the side of our property and everything turned out beautiful. He did exactly what he said he was going to do for the exact price he originally quoted. Very pleasant to work with."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Yes, trenchers can go through gravel. Gravel is made up of smaller, softer rocks that certain trenchers are able to cut through. Just be sure to use a rock wheel trencher or chain trencher, both of which are made to cut through rocky landscapes and gravel pathways without dulling the teeth or chain.

Trenching and boring are two distinct methods for installing underground utilities. Trenching involves digging a channel using equipment like an excavator, trencher, backhoe, or shovel. While it is a simpler process, it causes significant disruption to the surface, landscaping, and surrounding ecosystems.

Boring, also known as directional boring, is a less invasive alternative that uses a drill to create a tunnel for utility lines without disturbing the surface. This method is more precise and is ideal for installations that need to go underneath buildings, roads, or bodies of water. Although boring is less disruptive, it is generally more expensive than trenching.

Yes, most services include site leveling and foundation work. Confirm with your contractor for specifics.

The average cost of excavation is approximately $3,200, with typical projects ranging from $500 to $15,000. Depending on the contractor, you may be charged between $50 and $200 per cubic yard or an hourly rate of $40 to $180 for an excavation specialist. The total cost is influenced by several factors, including the project size, the amount of soil to be removed, and the soil's condition. Hard soil, tree roots, or excessive rocks and clay can increase the price, potentially adding $200 to $1,200 to the final bill. Other factors that can drive up costs include the presence of nearby structures that complicate the work or tight spaces that require manual excavation instead of heavy machinery.

To locate an underground downspout, you should start by identifying where the above ground gutter drains. Look for an entry point, such as a pipe or elbow leading into the ground. Follow the surface path for signs like depressions, landscaping disruptions, or wet areas after rain. You can use a metal detector or plumber’s snake to trace the pipe underground. For deeper pipes, a professional locator tool or camera inspection may be necessary. Visual markers or utility maps can also guide the search.
