"John was terrific to work with. We had a radiator blow out on us and not only was he responsive and quick to come evaluate the problem but he was also quick to schedule the repair. In between we realized we had a running toilet and a leaking faucet and it was no problem for him to fix those while he was on site fixing the radiator. He was super friendly and his prices are fair. The first plumber I called wanted to charge me $350 just to full out the COI! No craziness like that with John. I will definitely use him again for future plumbing needs."

A well does not run out of water because the groundwater continues to refill with rainwater that seeps through the ground. The desired water pressure in the household is usually a few psi above the cut-in number. The difference between the cut-in and cut-out pressure settings should be 20 psi. Typical settings for household applications include 20/40, 30/50, and 40/60.

Another common question is, what pressure should your well tank be set at? The standard rule of thumb is to set your well tank’s pressure at 2 psi below the cut-on point of your pressure switch. So if your well is set up for a high cycle of 40/60 psi, your pressure should be set to 38 psi. If you use a low setting of 30/50 psi, you would set the pressure to 28 psi.

For the most part, choosing between 30/50 psi and 40/60 psi is based on your water-pressure preference. However, it can also depend a little bit on your house—if you have older plumbing, a lower water pressure can be easier on the pipes (and a bit more gentle on your well pump).
