Upstate Well Solutions provides top quality service in the water well industry. As a licensed water well contractor, we diagnose and fix problems with well systems, fix pressure problems and provide water filtration services to homeowners in Upstate New York.

"The owner, Zach, called me to schedule a free estimate after a brief exchange about what sort of work i was looking for. After our initial phone call he promptly scheduled me to take a look at my well and my well pump. Upon receiving the estimate Zach was sure to answer all of my questions and was sure to settle any doubts that i had. I hired zach and he was able to work around my chaotic schedule. His pricing was fair, his work was excellent, and his timeliness was outstanding. After completing the job zach even followed up with a phone call after. I would hire him again for any of my well needs as he was careful, respectful of my home, and sincere in providing excellent work. If you go with this company you wont be disappointed, i have no problem recommending him to anyone."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Yes, it’s fine to drink softened water. However, if you follow a low-sodium diet or have high blood pressure or sodium-related health concerns, make sure to speak with your doctor beforehand. If they advise against drinking water that’s been softened with sodium, you might be able to use potassium in your water softener instead.

Yes. Hard water is what causes scale buildup, and a whole-house filter provides numerous benefits beyond water softening. Any water that enters your home will go through the filter, which cleans up all water that you will use for cooking, bathing, and drinking. A whole-house water filter also blocks harmful particles like heavy metals.

You can decide whether you need a water softener or water filter based on how your bathing or laundry experience is. If you notice issues like limescale buildup, dry skin, or stains on dishes—all telltale signs of hard water—you'd likely benefit from a water softener. However, if your main concern is over chemicals or bacteria in your tap water filter, and not just comfort, a filter is a better option.

A tankless water heater should be at least 10 feet away from a water softener, although the pros you hire for water softener installation can help you determine the correct distance. These two units need to have some distance between them to prevent hot water from the tankless water heater from flowing backward into the water softener when it runs a regeneration cycle.

No. You should never directly drain a water softener into a sewer cleanout. This practice is illegal in many areas because it could allow raw sewage to get into your drinking water and make you seriously ill. Many places have codes requiring a specific seal, pipe, and a large air gap between a water softener and a sewage cleanout. Check out Florida's Plumbing Building Code as an example of what these restrictions might look like.
