"I recently had a water softener installed by Aquascience of NY and couldn't be happier with the experience. After our first phone conversation with Stephen, the process moved smoothly. The site visit was thorough, and we quickly signed the order. The installation team was professional, helpful, and incredibly knowledgeable about the system. They designed and executed the installation with outstanding attention to detail. Overall, I highly recommend their services for anyone in need of a water softener."

"John installed a new sump pump for me. He excavated the hole from the old one and made the new one flush with the ground. I asked him to make a small channel in my basement so the still water would flow to the sump pump. He went the extra mile and flooded the basement to see where all the still spots were then extended the channel to those still spaces. Now, all the water in my basement flows to the sump pump. John does things professionally, quick, and neat. He is situationally aware and did things because it made sense or looked better. I would highly recommend his services."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Selecting the right system depends on testing your water to understand the contaminants present and considering your household's water usage and specific needs, such as removing specific contaminants.

Hard water is not considered unhealthy and is safe to drink, cook with, and bathe in. It doesn't pose a risk to your physical health and can even help you get enough essential minerals like calcium in your diet. However, it can negatively affect skin and hair. Using hard water for washing can contribute to dry skin, an itchy scalp, and may worsen conditions like eczema by altering the pH balance. Additionally, some people do not like the taste of hard water.

Hard water doesn’t hurt, but it might feel more abrasive, especially if you have sensitive skin. It’s also about how your skin feels after bathing. You might feel as though you have a sticky film over your body because you do—it’s all that soapy residue left behind because the hard water can’t rinse it off completely.

Softener systems extend appliance life spans, improve skin and hair health, and reduce pipe buildup by removing minerals like calcium and magnesium.

The main difference between a water softener and a water filter is what they remove from the water. A water softener is specifically designed to remove hard minerals, while a filter removes a wider range of contaminants above a certain size, such as bacteria and other impurities. If your primary goal is to remove minerals, a softener is the best choice. If you want to remove various contaminants for safety or taste, a filter is more suitable. Filters are also typically less expensive to install. Depending on your water supply's specific issues, you may need to install both systems for comprehensive treatment.
