"Comment: I was finally able to find a responsive and reliable plumber. Jason returned my call promptly and showed up on time for both the estimate and several days later when he completed the job. He replaced two toilets, an outside spigot and well as installing several cut off valves. All work was done with care and cleanup was great. Jason also made suggestions for other work that I am considering. All-in-all this was a positive experience and I highly recommend Jason and Aquarius Master Plumbing and Heating for your plumbing needs. Thanks again, Jason."

"Aleks and his team were fantastic! They helped us gut renovate our kitchen including tiling the floor, replacing a door and window, new electrical wiring, new plumbing, installing a range hood, removal of a load-bearing wall and installation of a post and beam in its place. The crew were great to work with - very pleasant and best of all - highly skilled with a rare and much appreciated attention to detail and craftsmanship. There was excellent communication and consultation throughout the process. They cleaned up thoroughly at the end of each day (which was important as we were living amidst the construction). We are thrilled with the final work done and would highly recommend them to others."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

A back pressure valve is a control valve used on production vessels, such as separators, treaters, and free water knockouts. The valve holds pressure until a set point is reached, and then releases upstream pressure to reset. Back pressure valves are not safety mechanisms. Instead, they are regulators designed to keep the fluid, gas, or liquid mixture in a system at a certain pressure level to prevent bursts and other incidents.

Meanwhile, a backflow preventer is a safety mechanism that kicks in when the pressure has already failed and contaminated water flows in the reverse direction. Most backflow preventers consist of two one-way valves, or check valves assembled together. This design only allows water to pass through in one direction but not the other.

Plumbers will typically take one to two hours to install a new drain pipe, but that timeline can vary based on the area’s accessibility, the drain length, and the type of drain line. Replacing an easily accessible p-trap under a sink could take as little as a half an hour, while replacing a larger section of drain line behind the wall could take as long as three to four hours. When hiring a plumber for your specific installation, ask them to provide an estimated timeline to get a more accurate assessment.

The first step to clearing the air in a line is to locate the cause. This is usually a blockage in either the drain or the venting system. Once you clear the issue, flush the system by actually flushing the toilets repeatedly. This should allow the trapped air to escape, thus clearing the lines. Don’t be surprised if there is increased bubbling as the air makes its way through the system.

No, a larger well pressure tank will not increase your home's water pressure by itself. Water pressure is determined by the pressure control switch on the well pump.

However, a larger tank does offer other benefits. It can store more water, which allows you to run water for longer periods before the pump needs to turn on. This reduces how often the pump cycles on and off, leading to less wear and tear on the pump and the entire well system. Consequently, a larger tank can help extend the life of your equipment and may prevent future pump issues that could affect water pressure.

If your goal is to increase water pressure, consider these alternatives:

  • Adjust the pressure settings on your tank to a higher PSI (pounds per square inch).

  • Replace your current pump with a model that has a higher flow rate, measured in gallons per minute (GPM).

  • Have a professional install a water pressure booster pump in your plumbing system.

  • If you experience pressure fluctuations, consider upgrading to a constant pressure system.

No, rough-in plumbing is one of the last steps before your drywall goes up. This is because essential things like pipe installation require space before other elements go up. After the rough-in plumbing is complete, your inspector will also come to conduct an examination and tell you if your plumbing is approved and satisfies your building permit.
