"Daniel and Eboni showed up to my house right on time. They ran a new circuit from my back yard (where my panel is located) across my flat roof and into my garage (approx 80 feet). They made one trip for supplies and got all this work done in about 4 hours. The conduit on the roof was all properly supported as well as the 220v receptacle was installed plumb and level. After testing the circuit they cleaned up after themselves and my house was left just like it was before they arrived. They were very professional and informative, they answered all my questions in layman's terms and were an absolute pleasure to deal with. I will definitely be using them again in the future and refer Albuquerque Plumbing Heating & Cooling (and electrical) to all my friends and neighbors. A+++"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can plug an extension cord or an outlet extender into a GFCI outlet. The GFCI outlet will still be able to protect your system in the same way.

Removing a fuse from the fuse box is relatively safe under normal circumstances. The task becomes dangerous if wires or wire terminals are exposed or in the case of a disaster such as flooding in the home where water can act as an electrical conductor.

Depending on complexity and materials, costs range from $150 to $500 per fixture.

Daisy-chaining refers to placing multiple GFCI outlets in a row along the same circuit. This won’t do any harm, but it’s of limited usefulness because a properly-placed GFCI can monitor all downstream outlets on its own. Multiple GFCI installations won’t usually increase safety except in special cases.

The common, marked as COM or C, is one of the terminals found in your light switch. It houses the live wire that supplies the input voltage. The other terminals, marked as L1 or L2, are the outputs to the light fixtures. Depending on if you have a one-way or two-way switch, you’ll either have just an L1 terminal or both an L1 and L2 terminal.
