"Saul was very courteous and professional. Steve was friendly and explained what he was doing as he was working. Both men answered all my questions. What I can see on the flat part of my roof, they did a great job. On the pitch part of my roof they were to sealed all the penatrations. I cannot get up there to see but I am confident they did what they were hired to do. I will hire them again for other jobs."

"PRZ is professional, hard working, reliable. They did a great job replacing our fence and took care not to damage existing plants. They also left the work site clean. I’d definitely hire them for work in the future."

Customers say: True professional

"Martin and his crew did an absolutely amazing job. They installed a door where there was an empty arch doorway. The finished work blended so nicely it looks like there's always been a door there. They matched the paint perfectly. We are so very impressed to all the attention to detail and thorough explanation of what was going to be done. Martin listened attentively and asked clarifying questions to ensure he understood our needs. We will be using Martin and his business for all our remodeling projects moving forward. It is absolutely refreshing to find someone who takes so much pride in their work!"

"Victor and his very competent and industrious crew at ProBuilders did a first rate job in repairing the defects - from our homes builder - to our concrete driveway and the stucco on the front of our home. The work being done to the driveway and stucco was explained to us in detail and was finished in the time frame Victor laid out for us. The price was reasonable too. We still have major and minor projects that we want done both externally and internally to our home and we will look no further than Victor's ProBuilders to get the job done."

"Daniel and his crew did a good job planning and completing the project of adding 500 sq ft to the back of my house. That included demolition of back porch and fireplace, expanding the living room, primary bedroom, primary bathroom and large walk-in closet. We worked well together in the design and execution of my dream home. The best way to communicate with Daniel is by text."

"This is Donna Robinson. Below is my review for L Martinez Construction LLC (Lionel Martinez) L Martinez Construction LLC has completed three building projects for us. The first project was a remodel of an existing home. This project included the demolition of our existing front entry, the addition of a large front porch, decorative rock work on the exterior walls and the bricking of the exterior porch. The entire existing home was reroofed with industrial grade shingles as well. We were very happy with the quality of Lionel s finished work. We had bid this project out to 3 other highly recommended contractors and although Lionel was not the lowest bidder, we had the most confidence in his proposal because he included the most detail on his bid and had a firm grasp on the time frame for completion of the project. His proposal showed me how organized Lionel is and how much of a stickler for detail he is. For me, both are very important character traits when hiring and working with someone. As we progressed through the project we learned just how knowledgeable, experienced and resourceful Lionel is. It was also clear he is very selective on subcontractors he hires, expects exceptional work out of them, and actively monitors their work. Finally, at the close of the project we could see that not only does he accept only high-quality work from himself but he is on top of every detail on costs of his projects. He presented us with a detailed report and walked my husband through every line item. Lionel is an honest businessman as well. We were very happy with our whole experience with the first project, so when we decided we wanted a heated driveway installed (2nd project) we went straight to Lionel. He helped us choose and plan for an electric heated driveway system. He prepared a bid detailing all costs including demolition of the existing driveway. Lionel did an excellent job installing our heated driveway, monitoring the electric installation and personally executing the concrete pour from start to finish. Next, we decided we wanted to build a cabin in the remote northern NM mountains (3rd project). Of course, knowing this would be a particularly challenging project, I asked Lionel if he would work with us one more time. He worked with us on every detail of this project. Lionel worked with our home designer on planning and details and navigated the complex permitting process. Next, he prepared the site by moving the electrical lines underground on our property, working with electricians to physically prepare the trenches and conduits to move these electrical lines underground and finally built the cabin. This was a huge undertaking, given the remote location and challenging building conditions. The result was A++. We simply could not be happier with the outcome of the projects Lionel completed for us and more grateful to Lionel and for Lionel. My view is: If you are fortunate enough to have Lionel work on a project for you, you will be very happy with the results and with the whole experience. I have every confidence recommending him as your contractor/project leader. Donna Robinson"

Storm Shelters questions, answered by experts

The average cost of building a cinder block storm shelter can range from $3,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on various factors. Size, location, additional features, and customization all influence the overall cost. A smaller, basic shelter might be more budget-friendly, while larger or specialized designs may incur higher expenses.

Whether it’s more affordable to gut a house than build a new one depends on the markets where you'd be buying and selling. However, it’s usually less expensive to renovate a home than to build new construction.

Most homeowners pay between $100,000 and $200,000 for demolition and remodeling costs, whereas the average cost to build a new home is between $139,000 and $531,300.

Yes, you can finance new construction, though the process often requires a different type of loan than one for an existing property. There are several financing options available:

  • Construction-to-Permanent Loan: This is a common option where a single loan covers the building costs and then converts into a traditional mortgage once construction is complete and you move in.

  • Construction Loan (Stand-Alone): This type of loan provides funding only for the duration of the construction project. Once the house is built, you will need to pay the loan in full, typically by securing a separate, standard mortgage.

  • Builder Financing: Some custom homebuilders offer their own financing options, which may only require a down payment to begin the building process.

  • Bridge Loan: This can be a useful short-term loan to fund your new construction while you are in the process of selling your old home.

  • Home Equity Options: If you are building a second home, you might be able to use a home equity line of credit (HELOC) or a cash-out refinance on your current property.

It's also important to be aware that some lenders may have restrictions on financing for DIY house builds, so be sure to verify that you can secure financing before starting your project.

Options include traditional mortgages, construction loans, and personal loans. Consult lenders specializing in modular home financing.

Whether it is better to buy or build a chicken coop depends on your priorities, primarily cost versus time and effort. Building your own chicken coop can be significantly more budget-friendly, often costing about half as much as buying a pre-made one. If you have the time and skills, building a coop from scratch is the most economical option. However, if your time or skills are limited, buying a kit and hiring a handyperson to assemble it can be more cost-effective than hiring a carpenter to build a custom coop from scratch. If you want a perfectly constructed coop without sacrificing your own time and energy, buying one is the easiest choice.
