"Gus Mendez, the owner, was amazing. This was a very complex project repairing cracks in our living/dining room foundation. More extensive problems were discovered as the original 35 y/o foundation was poorly done. Gus figured it all out, removed the old foundation and the 8" of wet dirt underneath and replaced with 8" gravel, then rebar grid at 12", then new concrete and tile. Gus was a highly creative technical engineer and problem solver, and with a highly artistic/esthetic sense. There was really no one else who could have done this, as the only other company that does this had an insufficient assessment for the bid. See photos for the process and outcome."

"We hired Mr Mudd to repair drywall and install an access panel after a plumbing modification. Elijah responded quickly to our request for a quote and gave us a free estimate that very day. Elijah is friendly, professional, and efficient, and he is very skilled. He did an excellent job (see photos). We appreciate his expertise and that he kept the workspace tidy. We will definitely call Mr Mudd for any future work, and we will refer them to our friends. Highly recommended!"

"RJ Handyman is the best! Rafael exceeded all expectations regarding his work. He is thorough, diligent and honest. He repaired a variety of issues in the fixer upper mobile home that I recently purchased. He did these repairs in a timely fashion, for a fair price and did top notch work. He keeps a positive attitude and is so versatile in his skills. I would hire him again in a second!"

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

They prevent soil erosion, add flat space, and enhance property aesthetics.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.

Generally speaking, a retaining wall should be between 3 and 4 feet high, depending on variables such as the wall-building material, the purpose of the retaining wall, and more. If you want your retaining wall to be taller than 4 feet, check with your local building ordinance office for the maximum allotment. You may also need a special permit for retaining walls over 4 feet tall.

Small retaining walls still require a foundation of some kind, typically a concrete footing. This helps to ensure the wall is structurally sound and prevents the ground from shifting over time, especially during those winter freeze/thaw cycles. The footing helps spread the weight of the wall and the load it carries over a larger area of the ground, thus assisting with stability. This is true of small retaining walls, larger rock garden walls, and the like.

Proper design and construction prevent erosion and add structural stability to landscapes.
