More extensive problems were discovered as the original 35 y/o foundation was poorly done. Gus figured it all out, removed the old foundation and the 8" of wet dirt underneath and replaced with 8" gravel, then rebar grid at 12", then new concrete and tile. Gus was a highly creative technical engineer and problem solver, and with a highly artistic/esthetic sense. We had no landscaping in our backyard, so we just had a jungle of weeds and some old concrete in weird sections. They removed the weeds and a small chunk of concrete, then poured a new patio. They then used the existing concrete divisions to design a yard with gravel and plants, with a patch of mulch for a play area.
