"Radon Shield was hired after I got a higher then expected reading for radon in by home when selling it. Benedict shared a lot of great advice about radon gas in the home, he was able to schedule the install in a very fast time frame which was extremely helpful because I was selling my home. The quality of work was outstanding and he did a great job explaining thing to me and by wife. He also did a great job cleaning up after the install. I would hire Radon Shield in the future in needed."

"Top notch company and extremely professional. They did an excellent job and worked with me on the best placement for the radon mitigation system. Perhaps the best review I could give them is to say I will be hiring them to do my own house as well as I am situated on the Reading Radon belt. The job I am rating them on was my Dadâ s house which I am selling."

"Jeff did a great job!  He was very thorough and took the time to walk us through each and every aspect of the house.  This is our first home purchase so we had no idea what to expect, but Jeff provided us with a great education.  He pointed out potential issues but also pointed out things that were in good shape, which was very reassuring for us.  All in all, I would recommend Jeff for anyone looking for a quality home inspection in New Jersey.

"While I’ve never had a home inspection before, I believe they all should go as smoothly as the home inspection with Luciano. Communication and setting up the appointement were a breeze. Luciano is informative and thorough but not an alarmist. I would highly recommend Luciano to any friends looking for a home inspector."

"Dave spent an hour and a half on the outside alone.  He left no stone unturned unless the seller had furniture or boxes in the way.  He had been in the construction business for 30 years, and that was very apparent.  He found things I would have never thought of, and was honest when he found good things as well.  He spent the time to explain and remind me of even the simplest safety things you should do in a home, like hitting the test and reset buttons on outlets once a month.  Apparently they break after a while and don't work at all.  I would definitely recommend Dave!!

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

The lifespan of a radon mitigation system depends on the type of system and its maintenance. With proper care, a system can last for many decades. Passive systems tend to last longer as they have fewer components that require replacement. Active systems, which have more moving parts like fans, generally have a shorter lifespan. For instance, water filtration devices and active pressurization systems require more frequent maintenance. While the system as a whole is durable, the radon fan in an active system typically has a lifespan of 5 to 10 years and will need to be replaced. As long as the fan is working, the mitigation system should function correctly.

The soil beneath your house is most likely what’s causing an increased level of radon. This is because soil holds radioactivity for a long time and it’s also what most buildings are built on. Another common source of radon is water from a source that hasn’t been through periodic radon tests, such as well water. Over time, the radon from the soil can inhabit other parts of your house like the foundation or plumbing.

Abatement includes sealing entry points and venting with systems that reduce radon levels below recommended EPA limits. It is handled by certified professionals.

Long-term exposure increases lung cancer risks. Prolonged homestay individuals and smokers encounter heightened vulnerability and exposure concerns.

The cost for a radon mitigation system typically ranges from $800 to $1,500, with an average around $1,000. The final price depends on several factors, including the size of your home, the severity of the radon issue, and the type of system required. Your home's foundation type also significantly impacts the cost. For example, sealing and ventilating an unfinished basement might cost around $4,600, while encapsulating a crawl space without a foundation slab can range from $1,500 to $15,000.
