"Radon Shield was hired after I got a higher then expected reading for radon in by home when selling it. Benedict shared a lot of great advice about radon gas in the home, he was able to schedule the install in a very fast time frame which was extremely helpful because I was selling my home. The quality of work was outstanding and he did a great job explaining thing to me and by wife. He also did a great job cleaning up after the install. I would hire Radon Shield in the future in needed."

"Top notch company and extremely professional. They did an excellent job and worked with me on the best placement for the radon mitigation system. Perhaps the best review I could give them is to say I will be hiring them to do my own house as well as I am situated on the Reading Radon belt. The job I am rating them on was my Dadâ s house which I am selling."

"Had the pleasure of hiring Michael to do the inspection on a home my husband and I are closing on. Prior to choosing him we read his reviews which supported positive feedback which was a deciding factor for us. Michael was punctual, first positive. He wore a mask and gloves - with Covid being a factor in these times it’s good to know that he’s taking the necessary measures to protect himself and his clients, another positive. He was friendly and confident. He encouraged us to follow him as he went about the steps necessary to perform the inspection. He is knowledgeable in his craft and also in the questions that we asked and the manner in which he explained for us to understand. Overall, Michael is personable and made the inspection not as daunting as we thought it would be."

"Peter is quite good & thorough enough in his inspection. He is very punctual, and responsive in his (email) communications. Gives a thorough report, even though I thought he focuses more on a few points on the outside of the house, and not quite 'inside-out'. I had to follow up & clarify quite a few things inside with him.
But overall he seemed to be very experienced, and thorough in his analysis.
Gives a big report, exactly within 48 hours, as promised. Quite a few things in the report seemed repetitive, but overall had all details & plenty of pictures from every possible angles. He also sent the Radon report after a few days, as promised.
There are quite a few things that he won't check, some of them might be obvious (as kitchen appliances), but it would have been good to know in advance what all things he does, or doesn't. He would have you sign the waiver / contract terms only after the inspection is done. I would suggest to ask those from him beforehand, and decide on yourself.
I would rate him 4 out 5 in terms of quality of inspection.
But for all other aspects, professionalism, politeness, punctuality, responsiveness etc, indeed a 5 out of 5!
Cheers.

"First he was late, approximately 15 minutes late, which was disappointing since I understand now that many inspectors arrive a little early so that they can finish looking at the perimeter of the house. He had my realtor, my husband and me waiting after we rushed from work. He was also late when picking up the radon test when my realtor was waiting for him.
Overall, Mr. Polo knows his stuff. He spoke very knowledgeably about things. He also went under the deck to do a good oil tank sweep even though he said he usually doesn't do that. So I give him credit for thoroughness in that regard. In the end, if you just want a guy who will walk through the house, point out stuff you need to pay attention to while you take notes, then he's your guy. But if you are a first-time homebuyer and need someone who will do more hand-holding, show you how to turn off the water main, and stuff like that for example, or give you a really detailed report with pictures and arrows, then Mr. Polo is not the one for you. I learned this the hard way, but due to time constraints I couldn't get the inspector I originally wanted. Mr. Polo though accommodated my schedule, but in the end his services fell short.  His report is almost incomprehensible. There are unfinished sentences and no pictures, but he does get it to you quickly.  So if time is a factor that's another reason to hire him. But like I said, if you're a new homebuyer and need the report as a reference for future fixes and are not good at jotting notes during the inspection, then I would recommend going elsewhere if possible.

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

Mitigation reduces radon levels, protecting your health and complying with safety standards.

Yes, many systems include warranties for performance. Confirm terms with your installer.

Ideally, no one will live in a house with elevated radon levels, as prolonged exposure increases the risk of serious health issues like lung cancer. However, homes with radon can be made safe through mitigation systems, such as active soil depressurization. Testing for radon regularly and addressing high levels helps ensure a safe living environment.

You can vent radon out of your house sometimes by simply opening a window, but it won’t remove the source, and will likely rise above recommended levels quickly. A professional will be needed to assess your home, and determine the best strategy for radon removal. Active radon sump pumps and soil depressurization systems are often used to forcefully vent the radon from your home.

The cost to replace a radon fan ranges from $300 to $600 for the fan itself, with installation adding an additional $200 to $500. Overall, the total cost for replacement can range from $500 to $1,100, depending on factors such as the fan model, home size, and local labor rates. If the fan is part of a larger radon mitigation system, the price may be higher.
