"Radon Shield was hired after I got a higher then expected reading for radon in by home when selling it. Benedict shared a lot of great advice about radon gas in the home, he was able to schedule the install in a very fast time frame which was extremely helpful because I was selling my home. The quality of work was outstanding and he did a great job explaining thing to me and by wife. He also did a great job cleaning up after the install. I would hire Radon Shield in the future in needed."

"The service was a Radon Remediation System...not listed above. Benedict and his brother were GREAT. I needed it to sell my home and they drive 90 miles and come out in just a couple days. The work involves boring through your basement floor, piping up and out of the house and up above the roof line with a fan and pressure gauge installed. I was apprehensive but trusted their "get right to it" attitude and the finished project is neat, clean and sealed in all necessary areas. Long term exposure to Radon can potentially cause cancer. The home tested as high as 5.2 (4.0 is bad) and after the system was installed another test read 0.3...virtually none. They were easy to deal with by phone, text and email and while I am unhappy that I had to spend the money, I feel it was WELL SPENT. I highly recommend them to resolve such a "mysterious " issue."

"

Peter came to my house to do a full home inspection and a radon test of my three family home.  He actually arrived a few minutes before I did.  I gave him some background on the property and outlined for me what areas are included in the inspection and then he got to work.  The inspection took around three hours.  Peter took a lot of photos which was great.  I have a flat roof and this is a pretty high building and I refuse to go up there.  So his photos really came in handy for me.  And I also have an attic area that I could not walk into, so having the pictures are very helpful in this instance as well.

He is also very knowledgeable and informed on every area that he covered and he does not mind being interrupted with questions.  He gave me a lot of great suggestions and really helped me to understand clearly and simply what areas I should pay close attention to and address.  He takes his time and always wants to know if you have questions about anything.  I highly recommend Peter.

Thanks again Peter for your review of my property.  The report is well written, detailed and will be very helpful in addressing items that need my immediate attention.

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

Radon is a cancer-causing radioactive gas that poses serious health risks, infiltrating homes through foundation cracks and unnoticed spaces.

If your home has a sump pit, you can integrate it with a radon mitigation system. You can accomplish this by sealing the pump cover with an airtight lid that accommodates radon vent pipes and sump pump hoses. This allows the vent pipe to redirect the radon gas outside of your home.

The average radon mitigation system uses about 876 kWh of electricity per year, although the exact amount of electricity used will vary depending on the size of the radon fan. Once the system is installed, the annual increase to your energy bill could range from $30 to $300 per year, again depending on the size of the fan.

The cost to replace a radon fan ranges from $300 to $600 for the fan itself, with installation adding an additional $200 to $500. Overall, the total cost for replacement can range from $500 to $1,100, depending on factors such as the fan model, home size, and local labor rates. If the fan is part of a larger radon mitigation system, the price may be higher.

Ideally, no one will live in a house with elevated radon levels, as prolonged exposure increases the risk of serious health issues like lung cancer. However, homes with radon can be made safe through mitigation systems, such as active soil depressurization. Testing for radon regularly and addressing high levels helps ensure a safe living environment.
