"A wonderful experience for a complicated project! I would use Green Sun Energy again for any service they provide. They made the generator install as easy and painless as possible. The crew was kind and efficient. Lots to do for an install such as this but they did it quickly, efficiently and were extremely organized. Just how I like it! Thank you so much!! We feel protected for whatever comes our way."

"The initial estimate was very reasonable. Nick showed up, on time, and got right to work relocating several ceiling fans, installing new light fixtures, rewiring outlets, and adding a new outlet. In the end, we were billed less than the original estimate because Nick determined there was a less expensive way to perform some of these services and did not charge us the extra costs. We will definitely be calling Kingdom Electric for any future services we need."

"Scott s Electrical company did an amazing job. I had them put in a whole home standby generator and was very particular on how I wanted the generator to be placed/installed including wiring underground. Scott was very thorough in his work that even the inspectors complimented all the wiring. Customer service was top notch. They were always available to answer any questions and did all the legwork for acquiring permits and just made it absolutely seamless for me (the homeowner). I truly loved working with these guys as I know nothing about this stuff and all I care about is making sure my family is safe in case of a power outage which happens quite often near us. After the install, Scott walked through the generator with both my wife and I and also simulated a power outage to show us how the generator kicks on and made sure everything works that we purchased the generator for. I would definitely recommend this business to my family/friends. Genuine people who love what they do and take pride in their work."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Portable generators provide backup power for essential appliances during outages and are easy to relocate.

You can determine what size generator you need for a transfer switch by matching the switch to the largest outlet on your generator. Larger generators can power up to 10 circuits, while most 5,000-watt generators can provide power to six circuits. So, if your generator’s largest outlet is 30 amps, you’ll need a 30-amp transfer switch.

While the rating will tell you how many watts the refrigerator needs at the peak of its cycle, it requires additional wattage to start. At the bare minimum, you’ll need a 1,500-watt generator to get the fridge up and running after a blackout. A 2,000-watt generator should be sufficient for most home refrigerators.

Natural gas generators are designed to run for extended periods of time, such as power outages during a natural disaster. Since there’s no limit to the supply of natural gas, they don’t need to stop for refills. However, generators do need maintenance, including pauses to check and add oil. Constantly running them will also cause a lot more wear and tear, leading to a shorter lifespan.

Generators are safe to use as long as they are installed and operated correctly according to the manufacturer's recommendations. The most critical safety tips are to never use a portable or fuel-powered generator inside an enclosed space due to the risk of lethal carbon monoxide poisoning; always operate it outdoors where fumes can dissipate away from your home. Additionally, never attempt to connect a generator to your home’s electrical panel yourself—hire a professional to ensure the setup meets safety standards. Finally, avoid overloading the generator by not connecting more appliances than it is rated for, as this can damage your equipment or cause a fire.
