"Gothic Construction did an outstanding job of replacing the insulation in our chimney and the connections to it. There were other significant repairs that Altin and his associates did to our chimney. Altin was very professional and honest. The quality of the work that was performed was excellent. I would highly recommend Gothic to my friends and relatives."

"We had our chimney cleaned. Our service person was very nice and professional. We did receive a phone call giving us a timeframe of when they would arrive that morning as promised, which is always appreciated. Since it was a routine inspection and cleaning, he wasnâ t there very long but hopefully all goes well when we use our fireplace."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

When it comes to noise levels, outdoor wood furnaces typically fall within a manageable range that's comparable to other standard heating systems. The noise generated by an outdoor wood furnace is primarily attributed to the operation of the fan and blower components responsible for circulating heated air throughout your home.

These fans and blowers are designed to minimize sound while effectively distributing warmth. While you might notice a subtle hum or airflow noise when they're in operation, it's generally not intrusive or disruptive to your daily activities.

In most homes, your chimney and HVAC are separate from each other. However, you can use your chimney to save on heating costs in the winter. Turn off your HVAC system and start a cozy fire, then watch the electric bills drop during the coldest months. Make sure your flue is closed when not in use so that you don’t end up pumping heat or cool air from your system outside.

You can burn wood with oak wilt, as heat from the fire destroys the fungus, and smoke won’t threaten healthy trees. However, wood of unknown origin should be burned during the dormant season—do not store wood in the warmer months for the winter season. If you harvest oak, let it dry in the sun before transporting it elsewhere.

Depending on who’s doing the estimating, about 22,000 to 25,000 chimney fires happen each year in the United States. Given the fact that millions of Americans have fireplaces (and chimneys), that means chimney fires aren’t exactly common—but they’re not rare, either. Since they’re so dangerous, it’s important to take precautions to prevent them.

A chimney liner is a good thing to invest in regardless of if you have issues or not. Chimney liners increase the safety of your fireplace. Without a chimney liner, the gasses that get emitted during burning could eventually damage the masonry and create a major fire hazard in your home.
