"Lou and his team at Absolute Waterproofing are hard working professionals and they did an awesome job on our basement. Our basement had flooded and we needed mold remediation and waterproofing. We called Lou and he made a stressful situation a lot more easier to deal with. He let us know step by step everything that needed to be done and he was very responsive and answered all of our questions. We highly recommend them!!"

"I called Arid when my sump pump that the previous owner left died during a rain storm. I spoke with Pat, who was extremely responsive, honest, and professional. Pat was very understanding as I explained that water had come up into the basement through the sump well. He sold me on a primary and backup pump system with battery backup and sent his crew out to my home that day. The installation took about 40 min and 20 min after the pump was installed, the water levels dropped back to normal. I have already hired Arid again to come back and perform a liner install around the pump and will look to Pat and his team in the future for all my basement waterproofing needs."

"Jersey Dry provided the best total solution for our basement water issues at the best price. They delivered everything as promised and went beyond. They even re-installed and repaired the basement sink by replacing worn piping and re-directed a gutter at no extra charge. They were extremely responsive to our inquiries and questions. They painted the walls and cleaned up very well. They ensured that we were totally satisfied by walking through the job before they left. They may be the best contractor that we have ever used."

"Work was done to code (which was not by previous company prior to my purchase of home). In addition to chimney repairs they did some work to boiler and hot water connects in basement that were not done to code. I am very satisfied with the work done. I highly recommend them and would hire them again."

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

No, your basement dehumidifier doesn’t need to be on 24/7. While it’s an excellent tool for tackling damp, musty air, especially in humid seasons, leaving it running nonstop can backfire. Over-drying the space can mess with your sinuses, warp wood, and even crack certain materials. Instead, only use your humidifier when moisture levels rise above 50%, and then give it a break when the humidity levels drop.

Mold and other fungi love moisture, so the best way to prevent mold growth after water damage is to remove as much moisture as possible. First, find the source of the water or moisture, such as a leak or clogged gutters, and correct the problem. Next, remove standing water, vacuum up puddles with a shop vacuum, and run blower fans and dehumidifiers for 24 to 72 hours. Once you've removed all traces of moisture, disinfect the area using either vinegar or bleach to kill any remaining mold spores.

In some circumstances, foundation refacing or repair may be a better option for your home than sealing a foundation. It’s always a good idea to take steps to prevent moisture problems in your foundation, but if there are any structural concerns, those will usually need to be fixed first. When dealing with foundation issues, it’s a good idea to get a professional opinion so you can avoid bigger problems down the road.

Living in a finished basement is acceptable, but only if the space has the proper points of egress and includes smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors to ensure the safety of the occupants. A good way to ensure your finished basement is suitable for use as living space is to get the basement finishing project properly permitted.

Proper drainage prevents water damage, mold growth, and foundation settling, protecting your home’s structural integrity.
