Stacie and Bear are professional, thorough, and confidential during all inspections. Bear was trained by the reputable K9 Sniff Company to detect the scent of live bed bugs and viable eggs. His scent is far more accurate than the human eye. Stacie and Bear are accredited by IBBMA, the Integrated Bed Bug Management Association. To become IBBMA accredited both dog and handler teams have to pass a rigorous annual certification. IBBMA is an independent association that ensures canines and handlers meet the highest standard of performance in the industry in accordance with National Pest Management Association’s Best Management Practices.

"I've used Modern Pest several times in the past, and I've always had great experiences with them. In Brighton, they were able to take care of a mouse/rat problem quickly and efficiently, and also mitigated a nasty termite issue. In Mansfield, they were successful in removing chipmunks from in between unit walls in a condo building and also were able to rid the building of carpenter ants. They've been a pleasure to work with!"

JP Pest Services has been providing pest management solutions for New England homes and businesses since 1925. We’ve learned a lot about our Northeast customer base over the past 9 decades like what they expect from the effectiveness of our services to what they need from our Customer Service Representatives and Service Professionals in the field.

"Squirrels were in attic and now appear to be gone. Entry points were blocked. One way doors and final close up is yet to be completed. Also treated for mouse infestation. No mice caught in several weeks and many entry points were blocked. Winter will tell for sure if all entry points were plugged, so far so good. Squirrel removal and blocking entry points seemed high priced for the less than 1/2 day work required by 1 person, over $1600. A return trip is needed but suspect will require less than 30 minutes, I wish I tried to negotiate on the price, the squirrel work was three times the cost of mouse work and both took about same amount of time. The mouse work is under 1 year agreement with 3 quarterly visits as well."

"I received a quote for trapping & removal of raccoon mother & babies of $295. Chris the main technician was great. He explained everything. All my good ratings relate to him. We spoke about exclusion work once the family was gone. My problem is that the exclusion never occurred. I was under the impression that it was going to be done. Chris was going to give me a name of a contractor to perform a formal repair (that I understood would be additional monies), the wire mesh exclusion would be done as an interim. I did receive a bill for additional $250 but thought it was for the exclusion work, so I wasn’t going to pay until the exclusion was completed. In the meantime squirrels took up space a month later. After several bills & one threatening my credit, I called and spoke to 1 woman ( I believe Penny) who took my calls, but none from Norma the office manager. I was told by Penny the additional money due from the repeated bills was for original trappings. We sorted out everything. I had no issue with paying for the additional trappings (even though I was quoted & signed the contract for a lesser amount). But the real reason for the bad review, is because Penny told me they would come back & eliminate & exclude the squirrels that have taken up residence in the space from the raccoon family for a reduced amount. When I got the new quote, there was absolutely no discount! The price was the same amount for 1 squirrel ( I had told them I saw at least 2) that I paid for the raccoon family & the exclusion was additional. I felt that had the job been completed as originally discussed, I wouldn’t have needed to have squirrels evicted for an additional full charge. I am vey disappointed in the miscommunication by the office staff, despite the great service of the technicians."

Bird Control questions, answered by experts

Look for goose repellents that contain the ingredient methyl anthranilate. This is a natural chemical found in grape juice. In human food, it’s often used as grape flavoring. With geese, it’s highly irritating. Grape Kool-Aid contains methyl anthranilate, the active ingredient in most bird repellents. It won’t harm geese, but it will deter them.

While not common, bird’s nests can cause problems to your property in some cases.

  • Block vents for your dryer, stove, and fans, creating a fire hazard

  • Clog gutters and drains, leading to roof and siding damage

  • Damage solar panels

  • Wiring issues if the nest is on or near a light fixture

The brown recluse has numerous predators in the wild (or close to your home). They are a valuable part of the ecosystem, too. Their predators often include birds, praying mantis, crickets, chickens, spider wasps, and more. However, the brown recluse spider is a master at hiding, making it much more difficult for predators to hunt them.

Calling your local exterminator at the first sign of a wild animal problem might be tempting. But pest control isn’t the same as wildlife removal, and you’ll want to stick with a wildlife removal pro for this job. Pest control exterminators treat for insect removal and may even use poisonous sprays. Wildlife removal companies only use poison as a last resort and always try humane methods first—taking special care not to harm wild animals.

There are DIY methods and store-bought pesticides available for the public to use. However, these pesticides also come with a risk, and you need to follow the directions correctly and take precautionary measures to prevent exposure to these chemicals. These methods may be an option for small pest problems, but you should call in a pest control specialist for persistent pests and infestations.
