"We replaced the windows in our 1933 home through the services of MadCity Windows. From the initial contact with their sales representative to final installation, the company provided top notch professional work. With the draft from the old windows and the cold of the glass, we are already saving on our energy bills. Our house had old, large windows, so they had to be custom made. As an industrial designer and interior designer, we find our windows to be of excellent quality."

"We had half our windows replaced last year & are getting the balance replaced this year. Andy come to our home to look at our remaining windows, get us set up with new windows, & schedule the installation. Instead of just focusing on the remaining windows needing replacement he first checked the windows that had been replaced last year. He discovered a few things that need repair or fixing & scheduled a technician to come out on Friday to get those fixes completed. Andy was thorough & great to work with!"

"Our first contact with Northern Valley involved installation of kitchen counters in approximately 2010. Jack was the utmost professional, so naturally we called him when we needed some major home improvements. He always answers his phone, promptly provides estimates, and he doesn't cut corners. Our bay window was somewhat oddly shaped and the extent of the installation wasn't fully revealed until the old window was out. Jack had to rebuild the base. He did a fantastic job. We've also used Northern Valley Construction in 2011 to install windows in our rental property. Not only did he do a great job on the new installs, he fixed the poor work of the window company that we had previously used. We will definitely use Northern Valley Construction for our future updates!"

"Our project was actually a crawlspace encapsulation. We have a lake cabin that was built in the 1960's. It had a dirt floor in the crawlspace with bare block masonry foundation walls. It also had old, damp batt insulation that was falling down from the joist spaces. American Waterworks came in, removed the old insulation (a nasty job!), laid down a 2 layer moisture barrier system and spray foamed the foundation walls and rim joist area. I can't believe what a difference this has made to our air quality, much warmer floors. We used to have to wipe down the windows every morning during the winter because of condensation. Not any more! I would highly recommend this company if you have the same needs!!"

Windows questions, answered by experts

In Fargo, it’s wise to schedule window service alongside upgrades like siding, attic insulation, or roof repairs. Coordinating these projects minimizes disruptions, reduces contractor mobilization, and helps you maximize seasonal efficiency. Many local contractors offer bundled project incentives, and combining upgrades can streamline permit approvals. This approach also ensures your home is sealed and protected before winter weather arrives, improving overall energy performance.

Helpful?

Upgrading windows in Fargo directly addresses draft issues and ice buildup common in older homes. Modern window service reduces cold spots, improves indoor air quality by limiting dust and allergens, and helps maintain consistent temperatures during harsh winters. Enhanced soundproofing is especially valuable near busy streets or train lines. These improvements not only boost comfort but also support long-term home value in the local market.

Helpful?

In ND, vinyl and fiberglass window frames are preferred for their durability and thermal performance. Triple-pane glass with Low-E coatings and argon or krypton gas fills is ideal for energy efficiency. Use stainless steel or brass hardware to prevent corrosion, and seal gaps with polyurethane foam or butyl rubber tape. Vapor barriers are important for moisture control, especially during extended heating seasons.

Helpful?

Fargo homeowners are increasingly choosing triple-pane windows with Low-E coatings and gas fills for superior insulation. Popular trends include prairie-style grids, black window frames for modern curb appeal, and egress windows for finished basements. Storm windows are favored for historic homes, while impact-resistant glass is gaining popularity due to frequent hail and wind. Energy-efficient window replacements remain a top priority in the region.

Helpful?

For Fargo’s unique climate, keep weather stripping, cold-weather caulk, and window insulation film ready for seasonal changes. An ice scraper and de-icer are essential for winter, while a condensation squeegee helps prevent moisture buildup. Stock a non-freezing lubricant for window tracks, a cleaner for salt residue, and emergency plastic sheeting for quick storm repairs. Moisture absorbers are helpful for managing humidity in basement window wells.
