"We spent quality time with Nicolas before the patio was put in. He had time and suggestions to make this a positive experience. His workers were excellent too… well done overall. They even did extra helpful things in our yard to make the whole patio even look better. We would highly recommend them as they were A+!!!"

"I've hired Sweetgrass for three outdoor projects (stone patio, deck, fence) and they've done amazing work on all of them. They are my first choice and I've referred them to several friends and neighbors. Mauricio runs an amazing business."

"Jon, Mark, and their crew did an outstanding job! We had obtained another estimate, and both were nearly identical, but we decided to go with Hutchins and they did not disappoint! Jon and Mark were both on site when work began and checked on the progress as work was happening. Jon came back the day after the work was complete to ensure we were satisfied. Multiple neighbors stopped to ask for business cards, and commented on how great the patio looks. Pavers for patios are in short supply right now, which Mark warned us about, but he was able to secure us what we wanted much more quickly than expected. Carmen is very quick to respond to emails and clearly keeps the office running well. Highly recommend! Will hire again for our next hardscaping project."

"We use Renew Crew for decks and porches. The main quality's rating was an 'A' but ancillary quality was bad. They didn't cover my bushes and several of them died. They were pretty good for the responsiveness. I will use them again assuming that I clarify with them that they can't kill my bushes again."

Patios questions, answered by experts

A covered deck can be a good investment that increases your home value—especially if you live in a hot region with a lot of sun. A covering over the deck means you can get more use out of it, even on the hottest summer days. With a permanent deck covering, you can even add ceiling fans to help cool down your deck for added comfort.

A sunroom offers an additional indoor space to rest, dine, or host guests, all while inviting in as much sun as possible. Either built like an enclosed porch or a fully insulated home extension, a sunroom features floor-to-ceiling windows or screens that create an open, bright design while still remaining protected from the elements and bugs.

Yes, a screened-in porch will increase your property taxes because it has a foundation and is considered a permanent improvement to your land. The exact amount your taxes will go up depends on the value of your existing home, the value added by the screened-in porch, the size of the structure, your location, and more.

Building a sunroom is usually less expensive than the cost of building a home addition, but it depends on the type of sunroom. A four-season sunroom will cost more than a home addition because it’s basically a home addition with larger, more expensive windows. All other types of sunrooms will be more affordable than a home addition of an equivalent size because they don’t have insulation, heating, cooling, electrical connections, or plumbing.

A screened-in porch requires maintenance to keep the screens clean and in good shape, and you may have to do some screen repair or replacement from time to time. A screen porch isn’t an all-season porch, so the weather can get in, including wind and rain.
