From evaluation of roof condition and or damage, to working with the insurance adjuster to help determine replacement over repair options, Dunlop Roofing was top notch and did a wonderful job installing my new roof in just one day. "UPDATED: He is willing to work around the weather and does a great job. Does a great job when available. HOWEVER, was to have hired him back this spring for pressure wash of house and application of special cleaner to the gutters to remove all dirt and fungus (what is referred to as Zebra Striping). As I had not been contacted I contacted him... and he is no longer able to do the job due to prior commitments."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Underlayment exists under your tile roof. It helps protect your home by acting as a secondary water barrier. Often, when roof tiles fall off, underlayment that's in good condition can temporarily keep water from getting into the home. However, immediate replacement of missing tiles is crucial to avoid additional roof damage.

Tile and shingle roofs both have their pros and cons. In general, tile roofs are a larger upfront investment. In some cases, they can cost twice as much as shingles, but they last much longer and generally hold their value better than shingle roofs. Shingle roofs, on the other hand, are budget-friendly and quicker to install.

Look for certified local roofing contractors with plenty of experience working with cedar. There are also several important roofing questions to ask before choosing a roofer, including whether they are licensed, bonded, and insured. Once you’ve rounded up a few good candidates, compare estimates and hire whoever gives you the best bang for your buck.

The cost to install a drip edge on an existing roof runs about $1 to $3 per linear foot, which comes out to between $150 and $1,000, with an average cost of $575. These are just averages; the total project price can vary depending on the type of drip edge chosen and whether you hire a professional for the installation. Factors like roof size, complexity, and labor rates also play a role in determining the final cost.

No, there’s no specific building code that requires a roof overhang. However, installing your roof with the standard 2-inch overhang is good practice, as it helps direct runoff away from your fascia boards and roof decking and into your gutters. Some overhang is especially important in areas that see heavy rainfall and snowfall, as the risk of water getting under the roofing material and causing water damage is much higher.
