"The before and after of my bathroom is night and day. Almost nearly complete but already a huge difference in home quility and comfort. Was priced in a range I could afford and even fixed other problems that weren't seen prior without bleeding my wallet, so I'm pretty happy."

"After looking for someone to repair a porch that was collapsing on a rental property, I found DLB Construction. Dwayne was incredibly easy to work with, gave us a quote that was fair and did work in a timely manner. I live out of state from where the property is, but Dwayne made it easy to manage the project. Once we agreed on a price, he and his team were out at the house and repaired the porch in a timely manner, making it look brand new in the process. Would work with them again, without hesitation."

"After talking to our neighbors who referred them we decided to hire them. We new the repairs and renovations would be extensive and we wanted someone with tons of experience. We signed a contract and had the job scheduled. The project has been done for a few months and we are still happy. After the work was done we had a small issue with one of our cabinets. They completely honored their warranty and kept their word. Our basement is no longer flooding and our newly designed kitchen and bath are absolutely beautiful. They did some really fantastic work."

"We are so glad that we hired Tom to do this work! He did a fabulous job with the remodeling project! Here are some things that we noted along the way: 1) He was careful to keep dust confined as best as possible. 2) We didn't give him a key to the house, but told him that he could just exit through the front door at the end of each day, leaving it unlocked. However, he wanted the house to be secured for us, so he locked the front door, and just stepped over the garage door sensor as it was closing. We were appreciative of his consideration and ingenuity. 3) He placed drop cloths from the garage door all the way through the house to the bathroom so that he wouldn't track up the floor and carpet. (He removed them at the end of each day) 4) He always showed up when he said he would. If he was running a bit late for some reason, he would send a text saying when he would be there. 5) He was dedicated to our project alone for the entire time it took to complete. 6) He worked consistently each day - from around 9:00 am - 4:30 pm. 7) He kept in touch with us constantly, showing us things, wanting our opinions, letting us know if he was going to be picking something up, etc. 8) He paid attention to detail, wanting everything to be as perfect as possible. 9) He listened well, and went out of his way to do little things that were important to us. 10) He was friendly and easy to talk with. 11) He was entirely trustworthy. We left him working in our house all day while we were gone."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

When choosing materials for finishing basement walls, consider factors such as moisture resistance, durability, and fire resistance. Opt for materials specifically designed for basement environments, like moisture-resistant drywall or cement board. Insulation with vapor barriers can help regulate temperature and prevent condensation. Consider using mold-resistant paints or coatings.

Research and consult with experts to select materials that are suitable for your specific basement conditions and intended use. Prioritize quality and compatibility to achieve long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing results.

Yes, you can add a door to your basement—it might even be required, depending on building codes in your area and whether or not you’re using the basement as a bedroom. A basement contractor can give you some advice on installation and help you add a door to your basement.

It’s less expensive to finish your basement than it is to build an addition to your home. The average cost to refinish a basement is $32,000 (between $7 and $23 per square foot) while building an addition to your home costs $50,325 ($80 to $210 per square foot). Depending on the size of your basement and other factors, like moving plumbing and electrical, refinishing a basement is a more cost-effective option in most cases.

Egress windows or doors are required in finished basements to meet safety and building codes. If your basement is unfinished and used as a storage space, egress windows are not required, but anything considered a habitable space must have an additional point of egress in addition to the stairs.

You technically can paint wires in a basement ceiling, but there are several important safety and code considerations. It's safe to paint non-metallic sheathed cable as long as the labeling remains visible. You can also paint low-voltage wires and conduit and junction boxes to help them blend into your basement.

However, you should not paint damaged or deteriorated wiring is a fire hazard because it poses a fire hazard. The same goes for painting over high-heat wires that connect to heat-generating appliances or systems. Be sure to avoid painting multiple coats onto any wires, as that traps heat and poses fire risks.
