"The technician came out to do a prepaid hvac tune-up / inspection and planted a capacitor in my outdoor unit and claimed it was the wrong one and wanted $366.00 to install the correct $20.00 capacitor. A five minute job. I have him on video. Don't trust these guys in your home or business. They're scammers. Beware."

"Still waiting for a call back after initial visit. They were to move forward but no time schedule yet and A/C not working. As of now, this looks like 4 days of wasted time as I am not sure their customer service exist. The lady this morning said she would mark as urgent and get to a manager. You would think a simple call to a customer explaining backlog or schedule repair date should not take more than 5 minutes. Will give them until later today and then move on..."

A damper motor can last up to 15 years, but it can wear out more quickly than that if you run your HVAC unit a lot. So you might expect a longer life in a colder climate than if you live in a warmer climate.

An AC compressor is one of the most expensive parts to replace on an AC unit if it breaks. You’ll pay up to $2,300 if you need a new one. If your AC is blowing warm air, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of air coming out of the ducts at all, or the unit cycles on and off a lot, you may have a broken compressor. When the capacitor fails, the AC unit can’t operate at all. The most common sign is the thermostat forcing the blower to turn on, but it only circulates room-temperature air. The AC unit also won’t make any noise or indication that it’s on. Sometimes, the compressor might hum as it attempts to work, but without any results.

Before a full shutdown, a faulty capacitor can cause your AC to struggle while turning on. The unit might also shut down in the middle of a cooling cycle.

There are two main reasons your furnace and AC are turning on at the same time. The first could be that you’re confusing the furnace with the blower. The blower is located in the furnace and will turn on to distribute cool air from the air conditioner through the ductwork in the home. This is normal. If the actual furnace is turning on at the same time as the AC and hot and cool air are coming into the home, it could be a result of incorrect writing to a new thermostat or new systems.
