Small jobs welcome

"Amazing remodel transformation for my home office! JJB Renovations turned my back bedroom into a beautiful and fully functional home office...complete with huge new window space!! I am in love with my new workspace and finally don't feel "closed in" while I work and enjoy the views from my new office windows. JJB replaced old flooring that needed to be replaced, fixed walls that were damaged, installed 2 new windows that included exterior vinyl siding work, completed required framing and trim, and installed all new flooring. Best investment I have made and will call on JJB Renovations for each and every task need they cover! Christina K. Avory Home Care Solutions, LLC"

"Gilberto’s company painted the entire interior of my house, including kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities. They retiled my walk-in shower and garden tub surround, installed new granite countertops in bathrooms, replaced lighting and mirrors baths. They also installed a tile backsplash in kitchen. Their work was high quality and the always left the job sue neat and clean. Workers showed up when they said they would and completed the job on time and within budget. I would highly recommend them!"

"Hal and his team were very professional. They did an exceptional job installing the backsplash in my kitchen as part of a larger transformation project. They were prompt, very neat and made sure everything was cleaned up well and in place when the job was completed. Would definitely hire Hal and team again for any future projects or recommend to others."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes. You can tile over tile if the old tile is in good shape, but this will also create a thicker floor. As a result, you may have to remove and readjust baseboards and other room trimmings and potentially even raise door heights to work with the higher floors. In most projects, it’s best to remove the old tile before installing a new tile floor.

Whether you want to match your tile trim with grout comes down to your personal preferences. If you match the two, it can help your tiles to stand out while providing a clean, cohesive look. On the other hand, you might opt to match your tile trim with your tiles. The best option will depend largely on your tile design, as well as how it fits overall with the rest of your room.

No, when done correctly, removing the tile shouldn’t damage the subfloor. However, if there was pre-existing damage to the subfloor from standard use or lack of maintenance, the subfloor may need repairs. For example, if the contractors notice mold growth on the subfloor or an uneven surface, you may need more extensive services before installing new tile.

If you DIY tile removal, remove the tiles one step at a time, individually removing the tile, grout, and mortar to prevent unnecessarily damaging the subfloor. Depending on the age of your home, consider having a professional inspect the subfloor to ensure it’s in good enough condition to lay new tile.

It’s important to leave a gap in the corner when tiling to allow room for tile expansion. Leaving between one eighth of an inch to one tenth of an inch is enough space.

The rule tells you how to cut tile to install it in a corner. The 3/4/5 rule recommends that you should have 3 feet across on one straight line, four feet on the other perpendicular line, and 5 feet of length from the end of one of the lines to the other. You’re making a right triangle with the tile, and the hypotenuse (the line across from where the 3-foot lie and 4-foot line meet) should be 5 feet long.
