Serving Western North Carolina's Heating, Cooling and Indoor Environmental Needs. Here at Comfort Central, we have a mission to provide you with the best possible experience. We want to earn your loyalty so you will never have to worry about your Heating, Cooling or Indoor Air Quality ever again.

"I highly recommend Comfort Central. Owner Kevin Schumann and his co-workers, Jay and Thomas, did an outstanding job installing the new HVAC system at our house. Over a four-day period, they set up in our crawl space a furnace/AC unit, a new plenum box, pipes for venting, and a dehumidifier with its own elaborate duct and water-removal system that will help keep our huge crawl space dry. They also put in a new heat pump in the backyard and a thermostat in the house. I was so impressed by the people and the work they did. Kevin and Jay are remarkably knowledgeable and experienced when it comes to HVAC issues. Thomas did a very good job with the aspects of the project that he handled. Every installation presents its own challenges, and one of the best things about Kevin and Jay is their ability to improvise as the project moves along. They considered different options when deciding on the size of the new system, where vents should go, how the duct system should be repaired and improved, the placement and venting of the dehumidifier, and many other things. They always kept the code requirements in mind. They were on time, friendly, communicative, and always considerate about how their work affected us while we were in the house. Kevin, Jay, and Thomas were also terrific when it came to answering my many questions. Kevin’s wife Laurie, who manages the office, responded quickly to my e-mails and helped with scheduling. HVAC projects can be expensive and complicated, and we wanted the right company to handle ours. We learned about Comfort Central from our home health specialist who had worked with Kevin in the past and had received very positive comments about his team from customers. I can recommend Kevin and the Comfort Central crew without reservation."

Leading provider in Western North Carolina of pre-purchase home inspection services including radon and water testing. NC General Building Contractor License #57294 NC Licensed Home Inspector License #2200 Radon testing and Radon mitigation repairs Formally Certified Radon Residential Measurement and Mitigation Provider

"Using Greg was the best decision my wife and I made while we were searching for a home. As any Asheville home buyer will tell you, the market is insane. Homes that are on the market almost always have serious defects, or they’re priced 100k+ over pre-pandemic levels. Greg can’t make it easier to find a home, but, once you find a home you think you like, his expertise will make you feel confident in your decision. He has encyclopedic knowledge of all rules and regulations required by North Carolina, but is also aware of various small repairs that pay dividends. For example, diligently painting your door jams is an easy way to prevent rot (unfortunately, neither of the homes we had inspected followed this tip). We’ve had multiple friends, family members, and contractors comment on how incredibly detailed Greg’s inspections have been. We had two inspections done by him, with our last inspection totalling seventy-three (73!) pages, complete with numerous pictures and videos. To put that into context, my sister-in-law’s inspection (not done by Greg) was only 24 pages, despite her home being older with at least as many problems. Aside from his comprehensive inspections, Greg is a genuinely pleasant person to talk to. My wife and I called him several times during our home-buying journey (Greg -- if you are reading this -- we’re sorry for the constant calls), and he always took time to explain any questions we could think of. We could tell he genuinely cared about helping us find a safe home. Needless to say, my wife and I highly recommend using Greg."

For half a century, the experts at Gentry Heating, Inc. have been delivering top notch cooling and heating installation and repair service in the Asheville, NC area. Our NATE certified technicians have experience performing heating and AC repairs on all kinds of equipment, in both residential and commercial settings. Trust your comfort to the dedicated pros at Gentry Heating.

"We had a new system put in the end of 2020. Gentry has always been prompt, knowledgeable, professional and great to work with. During this last storm our heater went out. I called on Sunday afternoon and I actually spoke to a person, who was very nice, and said someone would call me. Within minutes someone actually did and tried to help over phone. I had already tried what was suggested but he assured me we would see a service man the next day (Monday). Someone did call Monday morning and we did have a serviceman come out promptly. Albert was prompt, professional and immediately got to work. Our unit is underground and is difficult to get to but he went down there and worked until he got it working. It was a frozen line which he fixed and rerouted. He suggested a few things for another snow or freeze and left. The heater has been working since then. We would highly recommend Gentry Service in Swannanoa for new heating system or for service. We have been very satisfied from the beginning."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Good news: Your AC system doesn’t need Freon (a popular refrigerant) added regularly, if ever. Freon only needs to be added when there’s a refrigerant leak; however, it’s not uncommon for a gradual leak to occur every 5 to 15 years. Signs of a refrigerant leak include higher utility bills, increased humidity in the house, weakened AC performance, and a hissing sound from the system.

No, it isn’t necessarily bad to turn your AC on and off frequently—contrary to popular belief. Even if you stop and start your AC throughout the day, it won’t use as much energy as it would if you ran it nonstop.

If you’re concerned about your power consumption and energy costs, there are a few simple ways to use your AC more efficiently. Regularly cleaning the filters, scheduling routine maintenance, and using a programmable thermostat are all great choices.

Yes, HVAC zoning systems offer energy savings by allowing precise temperature control in different zones in your home. Rather than conditioning the whole house uniformly, these systems direct airflow where needed, preventing energy waste. Tailoring comfort to specific areas reduces energy consumption and lowers utility costs, making HVAC zoning an energy-efficient choice.

There are several common types of HVAC systems that you may have, including split systems, hybrid HVAC, duct-free systems, packaged heating and air, geothermal heating, or even portable units for heating or cooling. If you aren’t sure which type is in your home or are looking to install something different, you should consult an HVAC pro to determine which option is right for your heating and cooling needs.

Trick question: There is no difference between an AC and a furnace blower motor. Whether you have central air and heat or just one of these, the same blower motor carries hot and cold air throughout the ductwork in your home. Certain systems may have separate blower motors for the AC and furnace, but each serves the same function.
