"Mike and Jared are very professional and knowledgeable about cleaning the HVAC. Our old house had lots of coal dust from years ago and they were able to blast it out in just a few hours. Air quality improved 100%. Would highly recommend them and hire them again without a doubt."

"We recently had the pleasure of working with Mountain Comfort Heating & Air and I can confidently say this was one of the best service experiences I’ve ever had. Owner Josh Jenkins is the definition of professionalism, knowledge, and integrity in the HVAC industry. From the moment he arrived, it was obvious he truly understands his craft at an expert level. Josh took the time to thoroughly diagnose the issue instead of rushing to a quick fix like many companies do. He explained everything clearly, answered every question with patience, and made us feel completely confident in the work being performed. His attention to detail, workmanship, and pride in what he does are absolutely exceptional. What really sets Josh apart is not just his technical ability, but the way he treats people. He genuinely cares about his customers, their comfort, and doing the job the right way the first time Thank you Josh!"

"The contact person was very professional. They came on time and performed the service politely and efficiently.
I declined the spraying of Micro-Ban into the ducts. The Environmental Working Group determines it to be potentially hazardous. People with chemical sensitivity SHOULD NOT use that. If you do not say specifically you don't want it, it is automatically done.
There was one scratch in the wall when removing the intake cover, but he was very apologetic.
Overall, this company is a definite step-up from what we usually have to deal with in East Tennessee where the majority of workers can be rude and sloppy. This service was way over-do for us, and we are glad we did it.

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The length of an AC cycle depends on the settings in your thermostat and the unit you have. Central AC doesn't constantly run at full blast the way that a window unit does. A cooling cycle in most homes is 15 to 20 minutes. Then, the unit stays off for seven to 10 minutes to circulate the cold air in the house before the cycle repeats. It should repeat two or three times per hour. A short cycle lasts less than 10 minutes and then turns off.

You might notice that your air conditioner isn’t running as effectively as it once did. Specifically, your AC unit could take longer to cool your home, or it might struggle to remove humidity from the air. Higher utility bills and hissing sounds coming out of your AC could also indicate a leak.

An HVAC system typically lasts between 10 and 30 years, with an average lifespan of 15 to 25 years. The longevity of the system is influenced by factors such as the quality of the unit, usage frequency, local climate, and how well it is maintained. Regular maintenance, including cleaning, filter replacements, and professional inspections, can help maximize its lifespan. Different components within the system have varying life expectancies. For example:

  • Furnaces: 15 to 30 years

  • Boilers: 20 to 35 years

  • Air Conditioners (AC units): 12 to 20 years

  • Heat Pumps: 10 to 20 years

  • Ductless Mini-Splits: 10 to 30 years

While your AC unit may still run even if its capacitor is going bad, doing so takes a lot more energy, so it can drive up your electric bill and cause further damage to your AC unit’s parts. If you suspect a bad capacitor, it’s important to have a professional diagnose and fix the problem before you continue to run your AC.

The outdoor portions of air conditioners are designed to weather the rain, so you don’t need to worry about it. An awning or roof will help protect them from snow or falling debris, which can do more damage. This is true of both window AC and outdoor units for larger systems.
