"I wish that they at least look through a camera to see what was clogging the drain. The team was nice, polite, and clean. But, the cost was a bit too much for just running the snake through the pipe, and not knowing the root cause of the problem. They need a camera!"

"I had such a mess! The first time my finished basement flooded it came in the door. The next TWO times it came in the back wall at the ground level--after I had the huge pool filled in. David designed a solution for the side yard that included diverting the water down the driveway and into the street drain. He did a gravel-filled drain across the end of the drive. He was going to do a driveway channel drain and grate across the drive in front of the garage and exterior door but found there was a sewage pipe there, so he designed another gravel drain there. The backyard got multiple drains at different levels down the length of the yard. As soon as that was complete, the side of the house, which was ALWAYS wet, dried out completely! David is so professional. He explains his plans in depth so you know what's going to happen. He put down grass seed and straw, moved and then replanted plants, and had to dispose of huge pieces of cement that came out of the yard where the pool was. I can't say how pleased I am to have my house safeguarded. David is the real deal."

"I highly recommend this excavating company! They were professional, dependable, and did an excellent job from start to finish. They communicated clearly, showed up when promised, and made sure everything was completed properly. The finished work looks great, and they left the property clean and organized. "Lane came out and listened to all our needs. He walked us through a very clear plan for our basement. They gave us a reasonable quote and were able to schedule us a few weeks later. It took them 2 days to do the work and it was done very professionally. The crew was extremely nice. They brought extra plastic to make sure all our belongings were covered. They even helped me move my washer and dryer! They made sure everything was clean and to our standards before they left. The whole experience has been great and I highly recommend them for whoever is having water issues in their basement or crawl space."

French Drains questions, answered by experts

No. You should dispose of all oil-based finishing products through a local hazardous waste program. Not only can oil-based finishes be hazardous for the environment if disposed of in the sink, but they can cause clogs in your pipes and stop up your drains. Most municipal garbage or waste disposal companies have a specific location or pick-up schedule for hazardous materials, so that’s your best bet to get rid of excess finishing products.

Simple blockages can be cleared using household plungers or manual snakes, provided no severe plumbing issues exist.

Yes, chemical drain cleaners contain sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid, both of which are not only dangerous to your health but also extremely caustic. Drain cleaners will corrode your pipes and could lead to destroyed drain lines, especially if the chemicals interact with the piping for long periods. Unfortunately, this extended interaction is likely if you’re dealing with a clog, as the drain cleaner will have just as much trouble as water does moving through your plumbing system.

Anything from debris, rust, ice, and even poor installation can cause clogs in your plumbing vents. Some signs of a clog include slow drains, gurgling sounds in drains and toilets, and bad odors. The bad odors are the most concerning, as these can include methane and hydrogen sulfide. Contact a plumber to come take a look if you notice any of these signs.

Start by unscrewing the overflow valve, which is located on the wall of your tub between the floor drain and the tub spout. Gently insert a plumbing snake down into the pipe, move it back and forth, and pull it out. Remove any hair, debris, and soap scum that comes out with it. Repeat the process until the snake comes out clean, and then reinstall the cap on your overflow valve.
