  I used Gardens of the Carolinas to completely re-landscape my front yard. I needed to replace my driveway, so I decided it was a good time to do new landscaping. In my opinion, you will not find a better company than “Gardens of the Carolinas” to do a landscaping project. John and his crew are the best! Always on time with attention to details I would have never thought of. They first regraded my lot to achieve better drainage and installed a catch basin to direct water to drain pipes they installed. Next came the new driveway and a curving walkway to my front porch. They also redid the brick steps to my front porch making them wider and reducing the rise to accommodate aging-in-place, which was a secondary goal. New porch railings were also built. They also transplanted some existing azaleas to another location in the yard and installed many new perennials. New sod was also installed. All of this along with many other smaller tasks (cleaning up some beds, unclogging an existing drainage pipe, building a side retaining wall, etc. ) made for a great experience. John is a great communicator. He will talk you through concerns you might have and is extremely knowledgeable on anything involving landscaping and horticulture.   Nicolas and his crew did an amazing job on our backyard. We had grading and drainage issues that caused the dirt to erode and sink our backyard slab. Nicolas gave us many options and designs to fix our water problems. We had spoken to 3 other companies but they didn't give us all the ideas that were provided by Nicolas and he also gave us a very good price. We decided to have a contention wall with a French drain built and pavers installed to create our dream yard. They removed 2 very large trees from our backyard and 6 other smaller trees. I was impressed to see how they took the time to remove all the large roots and big rocks. Our old slabs were also removed from the property, other companies didn't want to do that, but they made it look easy. They were very careful not to damage the property or surrounding areas. They were extremely efficient, punctual, knowledgeable, and friendly. The crew arrived early every morning and worked very hard. We are very satisfied with the outcome of the project. Our yard is now leveled / graded properly, no more water issues, and it's and Oasis that my family and I are enjoying very much. Once they were ready to finish, mulch was also put in the needed areas, sod was installed to replace the grass, and they cleaned the property. Nicolas communicated with us daily and updated us on the days progress. Once the project was completed, he took his time showing us with great detail all the work that was done.   My project was a complete renovation of my front yard. The project scope included grading, removal of dirt/debris, importing 24 cubic yards of topsoil, spreading/compacting of topsoil and digging post holes. Of the 4 businesses that responded to my posting, Grey Land Specialist was the first to reach out to me and the only one to provide a formal quote by email. My assessment of Grey during his first call and subsequent visit was that he was articulate, professional, and a good listener with a kind of quiet confidence that put me at ease. Once we were in agreement on the particulars of my project, Grey began working within a week’s time. The agreement he provided was straightforward and easily completed via DocuSign. Grey is definitely experienced with a Bobcat and operated it with great poise (no nicks to the house, nor our cherished trees). He did a great job spreading the topsoil EVENLY across the yard, taking care to fill in depressions. Grey completed the job within the timeline promised with no additional/hidden costs incurred. My wife and I have had several BIG home improvement projects over the past 10 years, but of them all, I can honestly say our project with Grey was the only one that actually exceeded our expectations and finished on time.   We reached out to John Spivey at Gardens of the Carolinas back in January of 2022 with the vague idea that our back yard was a disappointing place that we didn’t really like to spending time in. We had recently had an enclosed three-season room installed which meant we were now spending time out there looking at a yard composed mostly of clay and weeds. We also had some serious drainage issues that meant several huge puddles persisting after a good rain and causing the dogs to get muddy. John’s landscape architect created a few different plans for us and then we picked our favorite and went through a few iterations to arrive at our final plan. Work began in mid-June and wrapped up in mid-July and we could not be happier with the result. The drainage problems are gone and we love spending time out in the back yard –even in the summer. Work included regrading the entire yard; installing a large paver patio with perimeter seating walls and step; two small deck areas; awesome plantings; new Bermuda sod; and landscape lighting that looks amazing and will far outlast the plastic Malibu lights I installed years ago.   We are thrilled with the work and the results. The townhouse patio area is about 20x30 with brick party walls along two sides. The project required removing a large concrete slab and a set of concrete steps and regrading the entire patio area. The original construction caused rain to run toward and under the townhouse. Nicolas created a design reversing the flow and was able to tie it into the common area seamlessly. He had to change our original design slightly to get the drainage to work. His reasoning was clear and he communicated it well. His crew installed the pavers and borders exactly as we had requested. The project turned out better than we imagined it would. One of the things we knew would happen with the equipment is that it would disrupt some of the lawn. His crew put down plywood sheets to protect the lawn but some damage just can’t be avoided. He and his crew took care of the damage and from our point of view, left it better than it was before. We had a brief communication lapse with scheduling the work that was quickly and amicably resolved. Nicolas is personable, energetic, talented, and knowledgeable. We would hire Nicolas again and, in fact, are planning to have him come back and do some additional workshow more

  I was very impressed with the level of communication and responsiveness from the company. They contacted me straight away and continued to text or call in response to my questions and scheduling. They came when they said they would and did the work quickly. They removed the buried oil tank and filled up the hole as required, and even reduced the price of the work when they saw the tank was smaller and the soil less contaminated than expected.
