Emergency services offered

"My home has a chimney that was unsafe to use (cracked masonry liner). I dreaded the time and cost of a tear down and replacement. I contacted "Shamrock Chimney" and scheduled an appointment with their lead technician "Tony". He suggested a less costly and safer alternative (steel liner and a resealing of the outer brickwork. The work was performed over a two-day period. I am fully satisfied with the results. One thing I really apricate is the communication during the project. The "front office" would let me know by either phone or email when the project would start, and then Tony and would give me updates. All and all the whole process went smoothly. Also, this was my first time with "Angi", I hope to use their services again in the future."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

When hiring professionals for fireplace service, verify they hold recognized national safety certifications and proper state credentials. Any contractor performing structural repairs or gas work must possess an active NC license. Confirm the company carries adequate general liability and workers compensation insurance to protect your property. Ask for references from similar homes in Durham to ensure they understand your specific masonry or factory-built unit.

Helpful?

Completing gas fireplace repair projects ensures you have reliable backup heat during unpredictable Durham winter cold spells and power outages. Addressing issues early also helps you avoid peak season scheduling delays. Long-term, a well-maintained unit meets NC safety codes, preventing carbon monoxide buildup. A functional fireplace increases your home value and improves efficiency, reducing your overall natural gas consumption.

Helpful?

Before scheduling gas fireplace repair, verify your home has an active natural gas supply and check your electrical panel for tripped breakers. Replace the batteries in your remote receiver and clear away any dust or debris around the hearth. North Carolina law requires licensed professionals for all gas line work. Evacuate immediately and call your utility provider if you smell gas.

Helpful?

A reliable seasonal routine for fireplace service starts in late summer by checking for moisture damage and efflorescence. During the fall, schedule a baseline inspection before your first fire and check for wildlife nests, which occur frequently in wooded Durham neighborhoods. In winter, monitor your exterior masonry for new cracking after hard freezes. Finally, address any water intrusion during spring before the humid NC summer returns.

Helpful?

Historic Durham properties often feature original masonry fireplaces with non-standard flues, which complicates gas log service. If you have a ranch-style home, running lines through encapsulated crawl spaces or pier-and-beam foundations adds complexity. Unlined brick chimneys built before 1960 require a liner installation to meet NC code. Furthermore, dense tree canopies cause root intrusion that blocks underground gas line pathways. A certified specialist will assess these structural factors before beginning.
