"Jon was initially brought out to help us find a solution for the excessive amount of water collecting in our backyard.  We interviewed many contractors for the job, because this was the third time we were having someone come ?fix? the drainage issues. I was impressed with Jon immediately, not only were his ideas new, but he seemed to truly listen to the issues.  He was ultimately hired, because he was easy to communicate with, I felt comfortable telling him my likes and dislikes. 
During the excavation of the patio, Jon expressed his concern regarding the magnitude of water that was emitting from the soil.  I was impressed that Jon took it upon himself to bring a soil expert out to evaluate the soil and ensure that he was taking the proper steps in managing our problem.  Further, Jon went above and beyond the agreed upon scope of work by grading our backyard and creating swails to navigate the water into the newly installed drains.  Similarly, Jon added an additional French drain under the patio that was not discussed prior to the project. 
Approximately half way through the project, Jon approached me with a foreseeable problem with the design we had agreed upon.  He presented the problem and followed it up with a solution, which I appreciated.  I loved his idea of a retaining wall and knew that it was a necessity given the water issues we?ve been having.
 
There were a few hurdles, as expected with any contractor.  The first being that there was a need for more materials than expected, and while I was frustrated at the additional cost, there was no way Jon could have foreseen the problem.  The second issue centered around the shape of the patio, while we?d always discussed a semi-circular shape, he suggested we change it to a rectangular shape to increase the square footage of the patio.  While I appreciated his insight, I wish we would have discussed it at an earlier meeting.  The third, and final issue, was the length of the retaining wall.  Although the wall was decided last minute, I was under the impression that the wall was going to stop at one particular location, when instead it expanded further than thought.  I was pleasantly surprised by the length of the wall, however, it spanned the intended walkway.  Thankfully, my husband had noticed and informed the crew before they started bonding the materials.  The crew politely took apart the wall and we all decided on a solution at the last minute. 
I was so thankful for Jon and his two team members.  I felt comfortable expressing my concerns throughout the project and felt like Jon went out of his way to address and fix them.  He and his team were polite, considerate and often times we wouldn?t even know they were at the house working.  We have every intention to bring Jon and his team back to help us complete our backyard.  While there were some hurdles, we are extremely happy with the end product of the job and we HIGHLY recommend Hutchins landscaping!
