"Josh replaced our wooden porch railing with wrought iron. He did exactly as we wanted based on pictures we sent him, at a reasonable price, and exactly in the timeframe he said he could do it. He is very meticulous and professional and we would recommend him to anyone and use him again if we have a need. Thank you Josh!"

"I’ll give Mr John Evans of Evans Landwork 5 star review and more if I could. He did an excellent job on my driveway that had washout from all the rain we’ve had. He redid my entire driveway. Reworking the side ditch’s plus installed a drain pipe on the first day by himself. Working from about 9am to 7pm without stopping for lunch. Came back the next day packed everything in and then spread gravel. I was very impressed with his work ethic. Would definitely hire Evans Landwork again. He does very good work. C Webster"

"Hired to regrade my backyard and install a French drain on the lower end. Exceptional professionalism and craftsmanship. Had it done in the time he said it would take and at the price quoted. I used to have a river in my backyard every time it rained but now, one year after the work, everything is working perfectly."

Small jobs welcome

"Mr. Cribb didn't hesitate in the least when asked if he could do a rush job.. even though he had just come in from a very lengthy day. He immediately survived the plans and went right to work. Even though it wasn't a very detailed project, he completed everything despite having to work into dusk. A very impressive experience. We would highly recommend this owner/operator. Well done!"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Yes, an excavation company is the best option for land grading and yard leveling. General landscapers might be able to tackle these projects, but an excavation company will do a better job because they’re used to operating the necessary heavy machinery. Landscapers might opt to do the work manually, which takes much longer and could cost you more in labor fees. Finally, excavation companies will understand local regulations and know when you need permits to legalize the work, while a landscaper might not.

A mini excavator can dig between 5 and 11 feet deep, depending on the type and size of the mini excavator. Mini hydraulic excavators are more powerful and can reach deeper into the earth, but electric models have a more limited range. Mini excavators over two tons in size are also more powerful and able to dig as deep as 11 feet.

Skunk digging looks like a series of small, cone-shaped holes on a lawn or around the perimeter of a home, porch, deck, or shed. The holes that skunks dig when searching for grubs tend to be no more than four inches in diameter and may be up to four inches deep.

Yes, trenchers can go through gravel. Gravel is made up of smaller, softer rocks that certain trenchers are able to cut through. Just be sure to use a rock wheel trencher or chain trencher, both of which are made to cut through rocky landscapes and gravel pathways without dulling the teeth or chain.

The best type of soil to build on is a mixture of sand and clay, known as loam soil. Loam soil has the best combination of these soil types to build a foundation on. The clay particles help with water retention, so it won’t erode like sandy soil might, and the sandy particles help with drainage, so you won’t see unsafe soil expansion or have an increased risk of leaks from water sitting against your foundation.
