"Overall the service was good. Our deck and porch look much better. We had some areas where stain overspray needed cleaning. It was a bit difficult getting them back out to do the clean up. Communication could have been more timely on the follow-up cleaning."

"Very pleased with the work and look. Very satisfied overall. The estimator and supervisor Alex was very attentive, prompt and willing to answer any and all questions I had. The two carpenters in particular who did the majority of the work were excellent. Only complaint is minor as perhaps they could have cleaned up better when work was finished as we found many plastic labels that came off the ends of the new deck boards as well as a few random nails. Again a very minor complaint."

"Prentice and Michelle are FANTASTIC!! We used them a few months ago for some leaf cleanup (which was also wonderful) and after a terrible experience with another provider, I called them back for our regular lawn maintenance. They came the same day (!!!) and went above and beyond all expectations. They finished our overgrown and large yard in about an hour and a half and their customer service cannot be topped."

Customers say: Quick response

"My project was a living room that had not been painted in more than 15 years. The room was prepped to remove the wall imperfections. As no paint was available from the original project, the painter matched the trim and ceiling colors. The painter was a pro and did a fantastic job. I was kept informed about arrival time of the painter who was very neat with their equipment and supplies. I would definitely hire Ramirez Carpentry and Construction LLC again in the future."

"Ruben and his crew did excellent work building our deck. He stayed in touch with us each step of the way. He took care of the permitting and worked with us to meet the HOA requirements. The deck looks like it was constructed meticulously and is built to last! Thanks Ruben!"

"Alex Diaz, the owner, was prompt to respond with a quote, was incredibly thorough, and completed impeccable work! He is very communicative and willing to do just about anything. I appreciated most his desire to help save us money without sacrificing quality! This is the third project weà  à  à  à ¢à  à  à  à  à  à  à  à  ve hired J&J for - the first being exterior wood repair/replacement and paint; second a paint job of 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms; and third, a complete deck replacement. While on-site, we had a few small projects, replaced our broken garbage disposal and repair of two sliding glass doors. We plan to use his company for all we can moving forward!!"

"We had our deck power washed and the floor repainted and the front porch railings repaired and repainted. He also repainted the trim around the front door. Plus he put in a new mailbox for us. Damian is a hard worker, he’s precise and takes the time to do a really good job. He came when he said he would and everything was spotless when he finished. He’s pleasant and easy to have around. We highly recommend Median’s Painting and Services."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Yes, adding railing to a deck is a great way to improve safety and your home’s aesthetic appeal. Railings can be constructed from wood, metal, or composite, and there are plenty of choices regarding design and style. Always consult local building codes before starting any building project—there are often requirements regarding spacing and height that can differ slightly from place to place.

Yes, but ensuring the deck has a solid foundation with adequate footings is critical before building, as the weight of a sunroom will put significant pressure on the structure below. Even if your deck is properly constructed, it may not be able to handle the extra weight. While some basic, lightweight, prefabricated sunrooms can sit on a deck with a strong existing foundation without additional supports, in many cases, the foundation and joists will need reinforcement. It is always best to have a structural engineer perform an inspection to evaluate the deck's quality and structural integrity. A professional can help you decide if reinforcement is sufficient or if it's better to tear down the deck and start over.

Generally, a patio is more accessible than a standard deck because patios are constructed at ground level. However, decks can be made accessible by adding a wheelchair-accessible ramp, a vertical lift, or a stair lift along the entry. An ADA-compliant deck ramp costs about $3,000 on average. The additional investment will provide a much friendlier experience for your guests with movement impairments.

Footings for ground-level decks need to be at least 12 inches deep, and some areas require them to be even deeper. A standard range for deck footings is anywhere from 12 to 48 inches. The minimum footing depth is determined by an area’s frost line and soil conditions. If you’re unsure how deep to install deck footings, check local building codes to find the minimum footing depth in your area.

Both a well-constructed deck and a patio can add value to your home. Patios are generally cheaper to build but don’t offer the same aesthetics as a quality deck. Therefore, decks can be more appealing to buyers than patios, increasing a home's resale value.
