"Excellent job! It was clear they are experienced carpenters and painters and take pride in producing quality results. Brothers Carpentry and Paint replaced one exterior door with framing and replaced several interior doors. This included new knobs and for some doors, new hinges. They also painted many of the interior doors. They also made some sheet rock and baseboard repairs for us. Carlos was wonderful to work with, professional and patiently answered any questions I had. Will definitely call them for future projects and would highly recommend them!"

"Mr. Register and his team did a fantastic job building my new deck. They handled everything—from removing and disposing of the old deck to leaving the job site spotless. I was especially impressed that they kept working through the rain to stay on schedule. I highly recommend Register's Repair Service and fully intend to hire them again for future projects. Give them a call—you won’t be disappointed."

"Sticking point was miscommunication during sales. onsite guy said they didn't replace fence boards. Later HQ called to find out why I hadn't moved ahead. I had already selected another provider who could do all three. HQ said they could have done. Their loss. Loved the guys I ended up using."

"Geo and his friendly, skilled and hard working crew were fantastic! They framed a large 44+ by 31 inch roof egress window that was quite heavy. They did an excellent job framing to specifications, and expertly installed the roof window. They ensured matching roof shingles and got the job done within 2 days. They left the place very clean and charged very reasonable price. Would hire them again!"

"We hired Christian to redo our deck and it was an INCREDIBLE experience. We had some unexpected additional repairs (rotted wood) along the way that he communicated through and we got it done! we had a tight deadline and he crushed it. The deck is beautiful and well made and he went above and beyond with other things we needed (hauling and screening our porch). I 12/10 recommend him for any building or repair projects. He will be helping us with our property from here on out!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

The cost to frame a 2,000-square-foot house can fall anywhere between $14,000 and $32,000. This price can increase or decrease depending on what type of framing you choose, the quality of the materials, the project's complexity, and whether you decide to hire a professional to do the job.

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.

When building a house, it is customary to use 16d nails that measure 3 1/2 inches in length to construct the frame. These nails are crucial in providing the necessary support and stability for structural elements like joists and studs, which ensures a sturdy framework.

Building involves setting foundation posts, framing with durable wood, adding roofing support, and protecting from elements with water-resistant finishes.

The best way to calculate framing costs is by basing your costs on the square footage of your home. On average, framing your home could cost anywhere between $7 and $16 per square foot.

To ensure you don’t go over budget, base your estimates on the higher end of the price range. If you know you’re going to use high-end materials or require a custom or complex build, you might even want to tack on an additional 5% of your budget.
