"Jay replaced our old siding with new Hardie board siding, he completed a screened in porch and painted the whole house. Jay was very knowledgeable of the tasks and walked us through the whole process making sure that we got what we asked for. COMMUNICATION is spot on, he listened to what was needed and kept us up to date on everything throughout the project. Even when we needed to change something Jay was able to work with us. PUNCTUALITY is Jays forte, he told us when he would be here and was always on time. He returned calls promptly and was happy to answer any questions we had. COST is important and Jay gave a very competitive quote and kept in budget. PROFESSIONAL is a word to describe Jay. He stayed on project until finished and made sure that every detail was done to customer satisfaction. OVERALL he is a very ethical, friendly person that does a great job. We are thrilled with the finished product."

"Aron and his crew did an outstanding job removing the old vinyl siding and installing the new vinyl siding along with the metal roof. He is very easy to work with and is very knowledgeable. We extremely pleased with the finished job and have lots of good comments from the neighbors. I will not hesitate to use this company again in the future and highly recommend them."

"Wilson Construction was on time (in fact, early, arriving before 7:00 am), easy to work with, the workmen completed the job much more quickly than expected, and they cleaned up after themselves so well that we couldn't even tell that they had been at our house. The repairs were excellent. I would definitely recommend Wilson Construction to anyone who asks."

"Our bid specified old roofing and paper would be removed down to the plywood. Home inspector later found rotten plywood on the roof; owner admitted they left existing paper on to give us "two coats of felt". They came back, ripped off new roofing from above the rot and replaced the rot at no charge. Trouble is they didn't bring enough shingles, and spaced them out to cover ... this did not look like a new roof. They came out again, and this time it looked like a new roof ... with torn up siding next to the repaired shingles. "Not my fault: siding's rotten ... I'll fix it. What else can I tell you" (You could have told us about the damage and your plans to correct it but we had to find it first.) Rather than bring them out for a fourth visit we paid a remodeler to replace the damaged siding. Jon tries, but I am not convinced his crew cares nearly enough."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Stucco is considered a type of cladding because it includes a built-in ventilation layer, a weatherproof membrane beneath that, and, often, a layer of insulation to improve building efficiency. The multiple layers of stucco—the scratch coat, the brown coat, and the finish coat—also create a more complex building membrane, so it’s more accurate to call it cladding. However, homeowners and contractors alike refer to stucco as siding.

Vines can cause severe damage to your siding. They can grow underneath and all around siding, which can cause it to pop off or split. Vines also trap moisture, which can damage siding by causing rot. The cost to replace siding may make you consider getting rid of the ivy or adding a trellis or lattice support for it to grow on instead.

There are several highly durable types of siding that you can build right on top of without removing it, with wood being one of them, provided it's in excellent condition. However, a common reason for siding replacement is to eliminate materials that are in poor condition, making installing new wood siding over old not recommended. Additionally, the cost of adding siding over existing siding can increase costs to between $7 and $13 per square foot.

Engineered wood siding is still a relatively new type of siding, so it’s hard to say with certainty how long engineered wood siding will last. That said, homeowners should expect to get somewhere from 20 to 30 years out of their engineered wood siding, especially if they keep up with maintenance, including painting it every 10 years. Painting the exterior of a house costs an average of $3,150.

Composite siding, with proper care, can last 30 years and sometimes more. Because its color has a tendency to fade, you might want to re-paint it every five years or so. Before purchasing composite siding, check the manufacturer’s warranty—you should have a long-term warranty to back up the quality of the product.
